Awesome Lake Louise Tour
Jul 2021
My husband and I, together with our two young boys (age 8.5 and 10) had fantastic experiences with Discover Banff Tours. We booked the Sulphur Mountain Gondola, the Spray River 1-hour horseback riding, and the Kananaskis White Water Rafting (Family trip). All were amazing, well-organized, and safe. Special shout-out to Sebastian, Ann and the tall Dutch organizer (we cannot remember his name) from the white water rafting excursion. Many thanks for making our trip to Banff fantastic!

Awesome Tour Guide
Thanks to Hugh for such a great trip up to Lake Louise yesterday for dog sledding and ice skating. He is super knowledgeable but what we loved most of all was his flexibility, kindness with a "nothing is a problem" attitude. Would absolutely use Discover Banff Tours again.

Amazing experience

The tour guides - Jeff and Nicole - were helpful, welcoming and very knowledgeable. They shared stories and local tips along the journey and answered any questions. We went on the Lake Louise tour and the Johnston Icewalk, both were worth the price and definitely would recommend.

Gina was my tour guide and it is 100% evident that she loves her job! I had a wonderful day and she was very knowledgeable about BANFF and Lake Louise! I hope I get her as a tour guide again! I wish there was a way to tip her online because I did not have any cash on me.

Hi Sara, Thank you for taking the time to share how much you enjoyed your Discover Lake Louise Tour with Gina. We think she's amazing too, but she'll be very touched by your kind words. If you're still in Banff, our reservations store (at 215 Banff Ave in the Sundance Mall) can accept any tips for guides, and pass these along to them. We hope to see you back in Banff!

Lake Louise & Kingmik Dogsledding
Mar 2020 • Family
We had the most amazing day out at Lake Louise with Discover Banff Tours. Our guide Gina drove us along the Bow Valley Parkway and we had a few photo stops along the way to Lake Louise.
We were booked to do the dogsled tour at 12pm so we were dropped there first while the rest of our tour group were bussed to Lake Louise.
The dogsled tour was amazing - well worth the money and time spent. The dogs were all super friendly and loved to be patted and we’re super photogenic.
The tour itself was great - our guide Adam seemed really passionate about the dogs. We had great weather (-1 with added windchill). Would recommend dressing warmly as even though they provide a sleeping bag blanket in the sled which keeps your legs warm, your top half is exposed to the elements.
We were given the opportunity to drive the sled after the halfway point which was great fun!
At Lake Louise we did a self guided walk to the frozen waterfall at the opposite end of the lake. Would recommend either borrowing the snow shoes from Discover Banff or using crampons like we did as in some areas the terrain was rather icy.
We also enjoyed a warm beverage at the ice bar in front of the Fairmont Hotel before heading back to Banff.
Definitely worth the money for an entire day adventure.

Super, safe, memorable
I went on the lake louise tour combined with 1.5hr Dog sledding out to the great divide.
I was picked up from hotel. We stopped off at a few sight seeing points before arriving at lake louise. Our tour guide was very informative and had interesting stories to share.
I got to explore lake louise for just under 2 hours before my dog sledding. I brought a sandwich with me and sat and ate outside enjoying the views.
My dog sledding tour was female. Which i was glad of as I too am female and I was alone. I wasnt the only person on a sled. There were 3 other sleds on the trip too. The dogs were incredibly fun and friendly. I actually found the sledding relaxing and not cold as I was wrapped up in like a sleeping bag.
My sled tour guide was a lovely young lady who was very kind, she allowed to me steer the sled and gave me the option to feed dogs afterwards.

Lake Louise
Feb 2020 • Couples
My husband and I recently visited Banff and did the Lake Louise day trip with Discover Banff. It was coupled with a dog sledding tour through Kingmik dog sledding. Our tour guide from Discover Banff was Andrew and he did a great job! During our drive to Lake Louise he explained a lot about the history of the region and the National Park. And Lake Louise is definitely a place that you don’t want to miss if you are coming to Banff!

I Was Dog-Walked Through Johnston Canyon
Dec 2019
Here is my review of Discover Banff Tours that I wrote on another site but I'm sharing it here:

Discover Banff has the most affordable prices & offers the best variety of tours in Banff. I used them for three of my December excursions. Their shuttles will pick you up at just about any hotel in town. Here is a brief synopsis of the 3 tours I went on.

1) Discover Banff & Its Wildlife Winter tour:

I did this tour on the morning of 12/12/2019. It normally costs $70 but their online site had something called an ONLINE2SAVE coupon that marked the price down. I ended up paying $58.80 in Canadian dollars (about $44.70 US dollars) for. The tour lasts about 3 hours.

The tour group was small & we were picked up in a blue shuttle van. We were driven to several locations where we got out, observed the scenery & took pictures. The parts of this tour I enjoyed the most were going to Lake Minnewanka & the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Many of the lakes around Banff are frozen but since Minnewanka is so deep, it was only frozen around its edges. Minnewanka means "Water of the Spirits" and local folklore has it that a merman (a creature who's half man/half fish) once lived there.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel isn't just any hotel. It first opened in the 1800s & was resembles a castle. It's currently the most expensive hotel in Banff. There's a small replica of it sitting on a table in the lobby that's made of gingerbread. They had a live stage play version of "A Christmas Carol" performing their auditorium showing later that evening. This place is popular for weddings & has its share of ghost stories too.

Though this tour mentions wildlife, since it was December we didn't see many animals other than deer. But we were shown a phone booth near the Bow Falls area of Banff National Park that had been destroyed by a black bear.

2) Johnston Canyon Icewalk :

I did this tour later in the afternoon on the same day I did the Discover Banff tour I just mentioned. After I used the ONLINE2SAVE coupon it cost $74.66 Canadian (about $56.40 USD).

We were given ice cleats to wear on our shoes for the walk. The tour guide was a fit, slender woman of British heritage who seemed as if she wanted up to break a Guinness world record for the fastest recorded hike through Johnston Canyon. I was expecting a leisurely stroll through the canyon. There would be "2 or 3 hills" she said. Good thing she wasn't hooked up to a polygraph at the time.

I found myself stopping to take pictures & then having to rush to catch up with the rest of the group. Me being dressed in layers, being the thickest bodied person in our tour group & the fact that there were way more hills than advertised resulted in, you guessed it, me hitting a physical wall. Here I was, December in Canada & I'm sweating like I was wearing a sauna suit. The tour guide laughs and says, "I see some of you are breathing heavy. But rest assured that the air you're breathing in is fresh, clean CANADIAN air!" She also said, "You guys are gonna get your 10,000 steps in today." Were we at boot camp now? She pretty much dog-walked me through the bowels of Johnston Canyon that afternoon. Beautiful scenery though.

3) Discover Lake Louise:

I celebrated my birthday (12/14/2019) with this tour. I arranged it at the last minute over the phone & without the coupon I paid $66.55 in USD. This turned out to be the best tour of them all. Lake Louise is about 35 miles from downtown Banff & was completely frozen over. There were people ice skating and playing hockey on it. It's near a plush hotel that has a shopping center & gift shops inside. The lake has a walking trail around it & is nestled in between mountains. The tour group was there for several hours & were allowed to split up & explore on our own before meeting the shuttle at a predetermined time.

A couple of other things that made the Lake Louise tour my favorite was that there were several cute black women & a white couple on it who coincidentally were visiting from Atlanta. Small world! We got out several times on the way to take photos & even saw a bighorn sheep (a ram) casually licking salt from the road. We passed by an elk farm too. If you ever visit Banff, do not skip the Lake Louise tour.

Despite my struggle stroll through Johnston Canyon, I still rate Discover Banff Tours a solid 5. I'm not even mad at that woman. In fact I gave her a tip just like I did the other guides. I should've been better prepared. If I visit Banff again, I'll revisit Johnston Canyon. The competitor in me won't let myself go out like that lol.

This tour company is the most thorough in Banff. They offer way more tours than the ones I went on. They have dogsledding, horse draw sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cave exploration, helicopter rides, skiiing, a visit to a wolfdog sanctuary & even an excursion to Calgary to catch a Flames hockey game. The photos I'm posting don't do it justice. You need to see it for yourself!

Hello Mosiah, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback from your tours with us in December. We're thrilled to hear that you consider us the most affordable tour company in Banff, and also the most thorough! In particular, we're so glad that you enjoyed the tour to Lake Louise for your birthday. What a great choice! The Johnston Canyon Icewalk is our most popular winter tour, and it's considered a moderate/intermediate level hike. We advertise the tour as 5.4km (3.4m) long with 135 metres (443 feet) of elevation gain, and recommend a moderate fitness level to ensure that everyone enjoys it. During the hike our guide (including your guide Becca) does need to maintain a pace to respect everyone’s time so that we can return everyone back to Banff on time. We're sorry to hear that you found it challenging, and that you were expecting more of a leisurely stroll. We would love to see you back in Banff again, to conquer the Johnston Canyon Icewalk.
