- Seaside548936419140 contributionsAmazing western riding experienceGreat experience. We did the 3 hour ride with cookout. Quiet, well behaved horses. Excellent guides and delicious food. The route was perfect with some stunning scenery. Will definitely do it again next time we’re in the area.Written 2 October 2024
- jacienep0 contributionsFunThis was a fun experience. We had originally signed up for a horseback ride. Their weight limit is 130. My boyfriend weighs just under that but with clothes and shoes is over and we could not ride. We had to do the covered wagon. That sucked, but it is what it is. The wagon ride was fun. It has pretty views. The dinner was delicious and the staff was all friendly.Written 30 September 2024
- neillynda0 contributionsDon’t hesitate, book a rideI had an amazing ride on a very patient and well behaved horse. An hour gave me time to appreciate the amazing experience and vaguely feel my legs when I dismounted. The guide was so helpful and everyone was friendly and made it a great experience.Written 30 September 2024
- grammibiker0 contributionsNot to be missed !!This was a really fun way to have dinner ! A scenic ride in a covered wagon (tarps UP so you can see out ) You pass by lakes, go through wooded areas and end up at the cutest venue for a steak dinner. A covered patio with a giant wood fire pit. The food was great, the staff was super friendly. Perfect for the entire family.Written 29 September 2024
- 598laurir0 contributionsDo NOT miss this opportunity! This was amazing! Fantastic views, food, and staff. From a horse person's point of view it was so good to see well fed, shod and kindly cared for horses. Beautifully trained, taking us leisurely along the spectacular Bow River. Do not miss this opportunity. As a bonus, we were welcomed back at the ranch by a herd of about 20 wild Elk that came down from the forest. A fantastic ending to our day!!Written 28 September 2024
- 62judithn0 contributionsAwesome time!Absolutely beautiful! Very friendly staff that was very knowledgeable of the area. So informative . The dinner was amazing. Such a cool experience.Written 27 September 2024
- Bucko0070 contributionsNice experienceOur ride was totally fantastic. Our guides Erin, Jess and Dakota prepped us and ensured we were paired with the proper horse. The horses were calm and very nice to ride. Our trail guides were very nice and knowledgeable giving us some info about the horses and the region. We crossed the river twice and also rode along the golf course for a bit. There was some elevation changes but nothing too drastic for those afraid of heights. As someone who has ridden in the past, I would have liked to trot or gallop a bit but I fully understand the varying degree of riders they contend with on a daily basis and the need to make everyone feel comfortable. I would do this again.Written 25 September 2024
- deannac7630 contributionsFun Family AdventureWhat an amazing way to see the mountains. My family and I did the wagon ride and the guides were friendly and knowledgeable. When we arrived for our lunch we were impressed with the offerings. My nine year old daughter said it was the best steak she had ever had. The guides even helped my kids play some games. I would highly recommend.Written 24 September 2024
- lyna3210 contributionsVery disappointing and unpleasant experience.I went on a 3 hour ride recently and I was pretty disappointed. The horse I was on was aged and very slow and should either be on a shorter duration ride or retired. I spent most of my time a good distance behind the rest of the horses as he simply couldn't keep up. He zig zagged his way down all hills as his hooves are clearly sore. I have ridden horses my whole life and he definitely has some sort of hoof issue. I should have got off him and walked but that would have put me even further behind the rest of the riders. It's disappointing that the welfare of the horses isn't coming first. I spoke to the guide as soon as we got back and even said she was surprised that horse was on a 3 hour trip. I contacted the company via email and Facebook but their response was minimal.Written 23 September 2024
- ph6790 contributionsScenic ride along the riverOur friends rode in the Chuck Wagon and we rode horseback. This is a rain or shine event so be prepared - just as were departing a storm blew up. They were in the covered wagon which rides on paved roads so no issues. We however rode in the rain on a muddy trail. Not an issue for us as we were prepared, others however were not. Horses they use are all rescues ( auction horses) and they handled the wind in the beginning well and were calm the entire ride. Steaks were good and you eat under a covered area with a fire pit in the middle - which we needed to get warm after the wet ride ( rain actually turned to snow on the way back so that gives you an idea how quickly things can change there). We did have to change our route coming back due to the conditions so our ride back took the same route as when we left - very scenic along the river. Saw a small herd of elk on our return ride. Even though we got wet and cold, we still enjoyed it.Written 23 September 2024
- travelling_jo_10 contributionsSundance ride and cowboy cookoutOnly a short walk outside of Banff Town and easy to find. Friendly horses and staff. Easy to follow instructions before the ride, even though I have never ridden before the team made sure we felt safe and in control at all times. The ride itself was a slow pace, allowing us to take in the beautiful scenery and interesting local knowledge from the 2 tour guides. The steak dinner was spot on. The tour delivered everything they promised, and all the couples we spoke to really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend if you are in the areaWritten 21 September 2024
- SandraP2440 contributionsLovely Afternoon, Bow River RideWe had a lovely afternoon on the trail by the river. Guides and horses were great and it was really peaceful. Horses are clearly relaxed and know the trail well which is helpful when you haven’t been in a horse in a while! Would highly recommend.Written 18 September 2024
- loleb6500 contributionsThis is an excellent adventure!!the trip was spectacular! We had so much fun and the guides and ladies at the corral were fantastic with everyone. The horses are so beautiful! We took so many photos to capture the trip for usWritten 18 September 2024
- Sue L0 contributionsBrilliant !!Fantastic ride... one of my Bucket List ticked off ! All very well organised from online booking to actually mounting up. The guides are really friendly and caring of the horses who are obviously well cared for. Guides have riders of all abilities and nationalities to deal with, so run a tight ship with rules and regulations which I found very reassuring. In my senior years and not having ridden for 15 years, I found the whole experience easy, comfortable, reassuring and above all fun. Big shout out to Bryony and Dakota who made my Bucket list adventure totally unforgettable! Thanks girls xxWritten 18 September 2024
- NatalieBrock L0 contributionsHorse RideIt was quite muddy on the trail. Glad it was only an hour in length. It was a fun experience with some good views at the river section but we were ready for it to be over by the end.Written 17 September 2024

It is hard to give a place such a low rating, but here is why. The horse ride was for a birthday present for a relative. Upon their arrival, staff were yelling at each other. Staff seemed inexperienced as well. I say this because the birthday person had been on multiple previous rides with other providers. For the other person with her, they gave him a horse that was larger/fatter and told him if the saddle starts to slide, then tell the trail leader on the ride. So, of course, the saddle fell to the side. They guy at the back stopped the ride and yelled “First time rider!!” This completely embarrassed this person. Great professionalism! Even though, it was not the riders fault, but the staff who outfitted the horse….there was also issues with the stirrups. No fault assumed. Just embarrassment.
Then the trail guide started yelling at people across the river about their dog. Again…what is with the yelling at your establishment???
2 stars because of the nature.
Thanks for all the yelling trail guides for their birthday!

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to review. Some of our horses like to stick out their gut and cause us a bit of trouble when we tighten the girth. We do warn riders of this ahead of time and make sure to tell them to be extra balanced. We keep an eye on these specific horses to adjust as necessary throughout the tour.
The current in the lake can be strong at times, which can be dangerous for dogs, especially off leash.
We apologize for your experience with the yelling and will have a talk with our guides about being more professional and empathetic. Hopefully the rest of the birthday celebrations were still fun!

We recently booked an event with Banff TrailRiders and it turned out to be a very negative and traumatizing event.
I am extremely disappointed and unhappy with the lack of service, dismissive and rude attitude and overall lack of consideration by their staff during our recent experience at the Banff facility. We were originally booked into the Jasper stables...but had to scramble for a last minute change due to the fires. I booked their 2 hour Sundance Loop for Monday August 12. My 17 year old nephew was visiting from Ontario for the first time ever. We arrived on time to a fairly wet rainy day..but we were dressed for the day. As we walked up it was obvious that something was amiss as a family was leaving saying that they were told "it was too wet for them to ride". They did not have a booking...so we thought we would be ok. We checked in with plenty of time and our experience quickly went bad. My nephew was the first to step on their "scale". He is a 17 year old Gr. 12 athlete...plays basketball and some volleyball. He just had his physical to return to school and weighs 183 lbs. Their staff declared that he was 232 lbs and that he would not be allowed do ride today. I am 66 years old...and not a high school athlete so I didn't even bother to step on their "scale". I questioned the accuracy of the scale and was rudely dismissed with a 'our scale is accurate" response. I then requested a refund and was told that as we were cancelling less than 24 hours ahead of time..we would not get a refund. They were very quick to offer us the steak cookout for the evening. Having no other options available we reluctantly agreed. We returned at the appropriate time where we quickly saw a large group of people getting ready to ride for the cookout...many of whom were much heavier than me...and none of which were being weighed. I went in and questioned as to whether or not my nephew at least could ride for the cookout. I was yelled at...yes..yelled at. A staff member carrying a clip board declared that my nephew was in fact 238.5 lbs and that we had "MADE OUR DECISION". My nephew was so offended and upset that we simply left the property. It took me several hours to put him back together.
I am seeking a full refund and an explanation from this business.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We deeply regret that your visit did not meet your expectations and that you and your nephew had a negative experience.
Firstly, we apologize for any perceived rudeness or dismissive behavior from our staff. This is not reflective of the service standards we strive to uphold, and we will address this internally.
Regarding the weight issue, we understand how frustrating this situation must have been for you and your nephew. The weight is taken fully clothed, which can sometimes cause a discrepancy between a guest's known weight and the reading on our scale. Our weight limit policy is in place to ensure the safety of both our riders and horses. We operate with rescued horses and they cannot carry more than the set up limit. These limits are the same on all our horseback rides, including the Cookout.
We did offer an alternative tour, the cookout wagon ride, as a way to accommodate you and your nephew given the circumstances. We are sorry that this option did not meet your expectations and that you chose not to accept it.
As for the refund policy, we have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, which is clearly stated at the time of booking. This policy is in place to manage our resources and ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our guests. We understand this can be disappointing, especially under unforeseen circumstances, but we must adhere to this policy to maintain fairness and operational efficiency.
We are truly sorry that your nephew felt offended and upset. This was never our intention, and we regret that this experience impacted his visit.
We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our services. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

This was the best start to our family holiday.
We were in a group of 8 with 2 leaders - one at the front, one at the back. We chose the 2 hour ride which takes you through woods and follows along the river, before heading uphill and through the woods again. For us - it was the perfect length of time, giving us time to settle and relax into it.
We were under the care of Charlotte and Alex, our brilliant leaders. Charlotte led the way and was impressive in her knowledge of the area, and great fun with it, connecting brilliantly with all of us - including our teenage boys. We were impressed how she even got our youngest out of his shell, feeling happy and confident and into conversation.
They have so many horses! Our horses were fantastic- they know what they’re doing. Even my husband who hasn’t been on a horse for a very long time was loving it. I now consider my holiday romance to be with Trooper - what a dude. Solid, strong and dependable - my perfect match.
It was definitely the perfect start to a family adventure. We would all strongly recommend it if you’re in the area.

My husband, sister-in-law, and I really enjoyed this horseback ride outside of Banff. I think the 1 hour tour might have been a bit better just because our butts were sore by the end of 2 hours. Our guide was knowledgeable and I would highly recommend Banff Trail Riders.

Expected interesting commentary from the guides, but they could not be heard, even though we were only 5th or 6th in the line of riders, as we had to be in a single file. The guides had to their bodies around to address us, and to shout out loud. Still they could not be heard, which made the 2-hr ride quite meaningless.

This riding stable is the worst I have ever experienced. The ladies there are not only unfriendly, they are also totally cheeky and nasty. You are treated like a small Child. If they don't want someone to ride with them, they simply make them ten kilos heavier. That is a cheek. The money is not refunded either. In this riding stable you are totally ripped off. There are many riding stables around Banff but this is definitely the wrong one!!!

At Banff Trail Riders, the health and safety of our animals and guests are our top priorities. We strictly enforce weight limits to ensure the well-being of our horses. These limits are clearly communicated in advance to all our guests to avoid any misunderstandings. Our scales are calibrated to provide accurate measurements, and we adhere to these limits to prevent any undue strain on our horses, which could compromise their health and safety.
We understand that being asked to verify weight can be a sensitive issue, and we strive to handle these situations with the utmost respect and professionalism. We apologize if you felt that our staff's approach was unfriendly or disrespectful. This is not the standard of service we aim to provide, and we will address this with our team to ensure better customer interactions in the future.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Sincerely,

What an amazing experience.
We went on the evening 3 hour cook out ride. Staff were very frendliy, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. The horses were really good and very quietly natured.
The food was excellent. The hole experience was excellent.
I cannot rate these guys at Banff trail rides high enough, I would recommend to anyone, if we had the time I would be booking another ride, but unfortunately we are on the move tomorrow to a new destination.

I live in the bow valley 7years and do not recommend this place . I booked for my family the 2h ride . When my family show up they did not want them to ride the horses because they speak French but not English... They did not want to give them any refund .Or at least a voucher for their store . It cost 600$ ! The " you must speak English " restrictions is hidden in the website and not on the waiver you signed ... This is Banff national park where the 2 official languages is English and French . The staff had 0 empathy, did not even try to rebook it or find a solution ... Once they have your money , they don't care about you ! Go to kananaski range instead , you will have a much better experience than this tourist trap !

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced.
We would like to clarify that the requirement for all riders to speak and understand fluent English is indeed listed in our booking terms and on the product page as well in confirmation and pre-arrival email. This policy is in place to ensure the safety of all participants, as our guides provide important instructions and safety information in English. Unfortunately, failing to meet this requirement does mean that we are unable to issue a refund, as stated in our terms and conditions at the time of booking.
Sincerely,
Banff Trail Riders

It was our first time horseback riding and this was a well-organized ride. Your weight will be checked to ensure you weigh less than the stipulated weight. The horses were all well-fed before the ride to ensure that they didn't snack on the way, but they did (my horse did and it was hard getting him not to). The ride was through muck for 99% of the ride, don't worry it does not splash on you :). The uphill and downhill were the most exhilarating part of the ride. It takes about 2.5 hours and can be tiring on the knees and the back if you are not used to riding. The guides were amazing.

I have been on several trial rides over my many years and this was by far my favorite. The horses were well behaved and the guide was informative and looked out for all of us! Since we were a small group of 5 we finished the normal trial ride quickly and the guide pivoted and took us on another trial to make sure we got our full 2 hours.
