Did the 2 hour Sundance loop with my boyfriend and was pretty disappointed. We thought it would be a fun activity and a different way to see some good views we may otherwise not have seen. Unfortunately, other than at the beginning and end of the ride, this trail ride just follows a road and walking path and is through the woods so a majority of the “views” are just trees all around. There were no water crossings, we weren’t allowed to trot for even a small period of time (which I’ve experienced on every other trail ride I’ve been on) and the speed of the horses walk is excruciatingly slow. At the beginning of the ride, we were given some basic instructions on how to control your horse on the ride. I’m an experienced rider, so when my horses nose was literally touching the horses tail in front of me, I gently pulled the reins to slow him down (as instructed at the beginning of the ride so as to safely space the horses out and not get kicked) to which I got yelled at for having too much pressure on my horses reins. Guess you don’t really need any of the instruction at the beginning if you’re just supposed to let the horses do whatever they want anyways. Trail guide in the front was not really friendly nor talked to us at all during the ride unless it was to bark instructions at someone. Worth mentioning, though I forget the names, that our trail guide at the back was chipper and friendly, as was the woman who checked us in for our ride and gave us the basic instructions. Overall not a “bad” experience, just boring and disappointing for paying $270. My boyfriend who has never been on a horse was also very bored. Would save your money and just hike/walk the route instead of paying to ride it.

So much fun! Had a great experience on our 2hr ride as well as the 1 hr ride we did 48 hr earlier (we had so much fun the first time we came back again!). Horses were terrific and easy to manage whether it was your first time on a horse or if you’re more experienced. Guides were knowledgeable and friendly, trails great with beautiful scenery. Tip: bring bug spray!!..especially for morning rides unless you enjoy red itchy welts from ravenous Banff mosquitoes (they love tourist blood apparently). Also, best to wear full length pants - not shorts, not capris and not leggings with mesh design (those make the most interesting mosquito bite mark designs which you’ll get to enjoy for days along with keeping everyone else guessing what the heck happened to your legs ;) And this should go without saying, but don’t wear white. It’s a dusty trail with horses..you will get dirty and so will those white pants/shirt. We can’t wait to come back again and do an even longer ride (with our bug spray, long pants, non white clothing of course)

A great experience whilst spending a couple of days in Banff, we really enjoyed our 2hrs. The scenery was outstanding and the staff kept us informed of the area were were travelling through. I'd thoroughly recommend this trip.

We did the 2 hour trail ride and really enjoyed it. Saw lots of great scenery along the way and the guides shared their knowledge of the area which added to the ride.
Nothing too strenuous for us and just long enough.

I showed up a few minutes after my 30 minute window and was refused to be given a waiver and helmet for the ride. I have ridden horses before and felt very comfortable signing a waiver and putting on my helmet in the span of twenty minutes, but they spent those twenty minutes lecturing me instead of trying to help me get geared up.

Furthermore, even though they had open spots the day of for a two-hour ride and several one-hour rides that were not booked up and not likely to be (a single open spot), they refused to put me on them unless I paid more. Even when I asked to have the credit of my ride be used for a cheaper one-hour ride instead, they insisted I would need to pay more.

I truly have never met such unreasonable people who seemed to have no concern or compassion for their customers and were purely driven by profit. I have paid for a lot of outdoors experiences before and have never come across this.

My only consolation is that the ride also looks very boring. The horses walk slowly on flat terrain and trail leads are not willing to accommodate to more experienced riders.

Thank you for your comments. We do try and accommodate late people but its not always possible, just like an airline if you are late and can not make the gate intimate then you are asked to pay for another flight. Im sorry you do not agree with our terms.

What better way to see the scenery than from the back of a horse.
Did the two hour ride with Gringo. Other than the fact that I don't like western saddles I had a great time.
Lovely to ride through the trees and we even saw a couple of elk.
It had been raining though we got sunshine for our ride. It was muddy but the horses handled it well. They are obviously very fit and well looked after.

Our trip to Jasper and Banff was a bucket list trip of a lifetime. I own horses and am an avid trail rider at home and thought I would have fun taking my mom on this somewhat expensive ride with Banff Trail Riders. When we arrived the staff was somewhat short with us and we struggled to find helmets that fit correctly in a small room crowded with other riders. I finally found a dirty helmet (I mean gross inside and out) that fit and proceeded to the corral. The holding corral was packed so tight with horses they were kicking each other and standing in deep mud and manure. The horses were dirty and looked very sad. I was hoping things would get better once we were out on the trail but it got even worse. The majority of the "trail" was knee deep mud that the horses struggled in. I mean well over an hour of no views and horses slipping and struggling in these horrible conditions. I was on edge and so was my mom the whole time. There were approximately 20 riders at over $100 each on this ride. One rider in front of me had his horse slip so bad coming down a slope we all held our breath. Horses and riders can be injured in these conditions and it is completely unacceptable. This company is obviously only interested in profits and not the conditions for the horses. Once we were back the horses we rode went back in the corral and the next group of riders were getting ready to take them back out. At a minimum they need to get some Hoof Grid for the holding pen and get these horses out of the mud. On another day we happened to see another one of their holding corrals for the mules that pack supplies up for the overnight trail rides. Imagine having to stand and lay down in deep mud with no way to get out. Equines are not designed to live in mud like this, it causes all kinds of health conditions. This whole experience was disturbing, shame on you Banff Trail Riders!

First off we have never riden horses so that in itself was fun
The horses were obviously used to inexperienced handlers but were well behaved and did respond to certain commands
Obviously we weren’t galloping in the wild open but the ride was scenic and it was a great way to be in nature with an all natural mode of transport
Safe and enjoyable

Don't book this ride if you are an experienced rider. You will be dissapointed by the trail, running along the asphalt road and the up and down path across Sulphur mountain.
There are hardly any lookouts.

Guides were friendly and the horses fine, but there are too many rules and regulations too make this an enjoyable experience.

Im sorry you did not like the ride. Unfortunately we do have to have rules as we are dealing with groups of individuals and horses in a National Park.

This was a Mothers Day ride with my wife and 21 year old daughter. Warner Stable seem to cater to beginner riders which is great. If you have experience riding you may be disappointed. The guides on he trail were very nice and friendly but did not seem very experienced as riders or handling horses. The staff at the corrals did not know how to handle the horses at all in our opinion.
The ride itself was scenic but spent too much time in the woods and there was no stopping by the views. The only stop was to adjust saddles in a shaded wooded area to get eaten by mosquitos.
Pictures on their website showed riders without helmets but were mandatory to walk very slowly on at times harsh trails for the horses.
Overall enjoyed the ride but only one step above a kiddy ride.
