This was a good trip up the mountain. Our travel company had not given us enough time to spend at summit and were able to easily amend ticket for journey time. We were early morning and disappointed by lack of food offer available as we had planned to have breakfast at peak and could only get coffee. We also learned restaurant was booked out for lunch so advice would be to check availability

Hi Discover00096243171, We are happy to hear that you had a good trip up the mountain. I am so sorry to hear that your tour guide did not give you enough time to explore and relay the correct information about the food and beverage opening times at the top of the mountain. We appreciate your tip to future Gondola visitors to check availability as restaurant walk-ins get booked up quickly. It is important to make a reservation if you are planning on eating in one of our restaurants. We hope to see you again soon. Have a great night. Kind regards, Gandi

Originally this ride seemed pretty expensive, but since the weather was supposed to be sunny for a few days, we took a chance and were so happy we did. We hadn't realized the building at the top housed so many interesting exhibits and a balcony with breathtaking vistas. Parking was ample (and free) and friendly staff kept the queue moving quickly. The ride itself was smooth with clean windows allowing great viewing. Although the boardwalk from the building to Sansons Peak isn't owned by the same company, it's directly linked and we might have missed that adventure if we hadn't taken the ride up there. We also scored some great souvenirs using the Buy One-Get the Second 50% promo in their 2 shops.

Hello Paula B, thank you for a sensational review. We are so glad you had such a great time at the Banff Gondola! We are so glad you had such a great time up here and that the weather was so good for you. We always encourage our guests to buy their tickets online at least 48 hours in advance for cheaper prices. We do also offer a range of packages bundling attractions for cheaper rates as well. Thanks for taking the chance! We have so much to offer up here and we're happy you got to experience it all (including the boardwalk) on such a beautiful day with clear viewing in the gondolas. Online tickets are prioritized for parking and we have a range of alternative options for transportation to the lower terminal. We are glad your parking experience was a good one! We hope your souvenir bargains will help remind you of your great experience while with us up here at the Banff Gondola and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Have a wonderful day! Kind regards, Gandi.

When visiting tourist attraction there are a variety of different factors that I have been trained to look out for as a tourism & recreation student. One of the key things that plays a role in this is customer service representatives upon initial interaction.

Rachel did an outstanding job of setting the tone for our adventure! She greeted us with a smile and positive attitude. When we weren’t sure what option we wanted you(as we debated the hike). She talked us through everything and was beyond patient with our indecisiveness. What an amazing person to have as a front line staff! Rachel’s care for providing us with the best options and suggestions for things we could do well at the top really put our experience off to a great first step. I truly appreciate everything Rachel did for us during our time there. Pursuit & the gondola are luck to have such a caring person as a member of their team!

Some key things to be considerate of is the parking lot. My friends and I went around 11:30am and by that time it was completely full. The gondola does a good job of working with local transit in offering a FREE bus ride if you have your ticket(s) with you. During peak times they do check when your ride down the gondola is supposed to be and if it’s more than 20min they’ll recommend you change your time. This can be done at the customer service representative desk at the top. They take a photo on your way down of your group to remember the experience. If this is something you don’t want just let the photographer know :)

Overall, a great experience getting to see the mountains and surrounding landscapes from a higher point. The staff were kind and informative. The children’s interaction component is really cool as well! I always have love a good gondola ride and would definitely recommend this as something to check out when I’m Banff!

We are so glad to hear that Rachel was such a crucial part of your experience. We will be sure to pass along the kind words and encourage her to keep up the excellent work. We take pride in ensuring we have a great team full of positive people. Thank you for sharing some of the helpful hints you learned from you visit like the free Roam transit bus ride with your gondola ticket and the importance of understanding timed tickets to ensure a satisfying experience for all guests. We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to seeing you again! Have a fabulous day. Kind Regards, Gandi

I travelled solo to Banff in the last week of January and had called the Gondola in advance to inquire about how much time the average traveller spends at this excursion, to which I was told roughly 1.5 hours.. I spent closer to 2! The Gondola itself is amazing. Each cabin is pretty small and it takes about 10 minutes to get to the top. Once you're there, your mind will be blown by how spectacular the views are. There's a restaurant, mini theatre, a gift shop, and a number of seating/walking areas both inside and out. You may not need to book tickets in advance but I did and was able to skip the line upon arrival. If you're travelling from Downtown Banff, like I did, it's a $2 bus ride (one way) or you can grab a $5 day pass that will bring you to/from downtown. Definitely a must-see if in Banff. I'd recommend going sometime in the later afternoon so you could catch the sunset but anytime works!

Hi leannecarinci, Thank you so much for leaving your review, we really appreciate it. We are glad to hear you spent so long up the top to take it all in! The views really are spectacular. Booking tickets in advance is a great suggestion it allows you to skip the ticket line here and also saves you 20% if you book online more than 48 hours in advance. We really appreciate being considered a must do in Banff and thank you again for your great review. We hope to see you again soon. Matt

We booked a Sky Experience Package (lunch at Sky Bistro including gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain) online a few days before our visit.

The booking system worked perfectly and we arrived with our printed tickets in hand.

Once inside the building, we were greeted by a friendly ticket operator who said we could go up now (we were a bit early) or poke around in the gift shop first (which we did).

No line ups as with Covid-19 they stagger the ride times and only allow your party of up to 4 to ride together. The gondola operator assisted us with the doors and off we went to enjoy the about 7 minute ride up the mountain. The gondola was clean (they sanitize between riders) and it was nice to have the little windows open - the glass was also spotless for great picture taking as well. The gondola travels at a nice speed, not bumpy or scary at all.

The ride experience on the way home was just as wonderful and they even have someone there when you board at the top to take a "professional photo" of you, which you can purchase when you arrive at the bottom ($20).

Very fun and enjoyable experience that is well worth the money!

I haven't been up the gondola for nearly 20 years. We had a recent trip to Banff and my wife suggested we go again. I looked up the tickets online and was shocked at the price. A friend who lives in Banff agreed it was expensive but he said it was worth it.
Tickets are priced based on when you book and the estimated demand. So Uber pricing. Tickets start at $55 each for adults from what I saw, maybe they are available cheaper if you book farther out from your visit but I never saw anything less than $55. We paid slightly more but we booked a couple hours before our time.
We booked for 7 of us and selected our departure and return times even though I was unsure of how long it would actually take. When I exchanged our online booking confirmation for the actual tickets the lady at the counter told us they weren't that busy and that the times on our tickets would be flexible which was nice to know.
There was no line-up and we went up the gondola. The views on the way up are beautiful. Once we got to the top it was easy to follow the signage and find our way around. Three of us headed out on the boardwalk to the weather station while the older ones stayed behind in the main building. It was a fair distance to the end but an easy walk. The boardwalk is nice and wide with lots of room to stop without impeding traffic and there are some picture boards to read to add to the experience. And the views of course. You can see the entire area from the boardwalk and when you get to the end and make sure you touch the back board at the weather station to show you're done (that's my rule) After the walk out we realized the hardest part of the walk is the last few sets of stairs back up the the main building. So if you can walk out 5 minutes you've committed to the hardest part already.
There are lots of displays in the building and a movie and gift shop. The movie was good but the quality of the movie (the display, not the contents) were not nearly as good as they could have been. There were also a lot of seats blocked off due to Covid so our group had to split up into pairs and we took up most of the theater.
We spent a total of 2 hours here and never had lunch so I would base your estimated time at 1.5 hours if you don't feel the need or effort to walk to the end of the boardwalk and up to 3+ hours if you plan to have lunch.
It was a great experience and I guess what we paid for what we experienced it was worth it.

We were lucky and had a clear sunny day to see the majesty of the mountains! Great interpretive center at the top. We didn't participate in the board walk, but would be pretty in the summer. On the down side, it was very expensive, and we were concerned about the maximum weight per cabin of only 320 kg.

It will feel like highway robbery when you purchase your tickets, but it's so worth it!
We were in Banff for one day, and it was pretty cloudy and rainy. Knowing that we might not see much from the top due to the weather, we risked it anyway. We'd been up once before, about 7 years ago, and it was so breathtaking that we had to at least try today, despite the rain.
Didn't realize we had to purchase tickets online in advance, so we were initially turned away at the parking lot gate, but pulled off on a side street, bought tickets on my phone for the next time slot, and went back right away. Parking lot was crowded, as was the Starbucks and gift shop at the base, so we figured it would be a long wait to get up, but we were able to ride up immediately at our time slot.
It was snowing at the top, windy, cold, and so cloudy we couldn't see anything at all. Disappointed, we decided to try and wait it out. Got a table at Sky Bistro as soon as they opened for dinner (4:30) and got a couple cocktails and an appetizer. Great service. The smoked maple old fashioned was exceptional! The menu is quite pricey, but given the location and captive audience, it could be worse.
After about an hour and a half, the fog started to clear a bit, so we braved the boardwalk, and it got clearer and clearer as we walked out. After 30 minutes, the sun was shining, and the view was perfect. I'm so glad we took the risk, and waited for the weather to clear.

The gondala is quite long which makes you feel like you are getting your money's worth. There is a "museum" type place at the top with three different restaurants but it seemed quite pricey for a fairly uninteresting menu. There is also a hike to a weather station that is very fun and probably took about ~30 min round trip (including lots and lots of time for pictures). Make sure to dress cute that day because the picture opportunities at the top are incredible. The museum thing at the top itself is very child level which would make it super family friendly but just ended up being boring for me.

The gondola trip, views, and the destination at the top of sulphur mountain were amazing - but none of that would have been possible without help from the customer service rep Gandi who we met before boarding. We had accidentally booked the wrong date for our tickets, but Gandi was extremely helpful, ensuring that we got tickets for the correct date and at the same price that we paid. He was quick to help us, and friendly throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to give us information about our excursion, and was patient in answering all our questions. We booked the ticket that includes the Sky Bistro lunch, which I would also highly recommend - it is WELL worth the price! (see separate review for this)! I would highly recommend visiting the Banff Gondola, and it will be an extra bonus if you run into Gandi, as he will take your experience to another level!
