The experience & views are so worth it!!!
This one is definitely worth it! The ride up to the mountains on the Gondola & the walk to sulphur mountain is stunning. The whole family (including our teen boys enjoyed the whole experience) It’s a little cool up there in the evening so bring a light jacket. The view is stunning from every angle!

A bit pricey but a great experience
Jun 2021
I haven't been up the gondola for nearly 20 years. We had a recent trip to Banff and my wife suggested we go again. I looked up the tickets online and was shocked at the price. A friend who lives in Banff agreed it was expensive but he said it was worth it.
Tickets are priced based on when you book and the estimated demand. So Uber pricing. Tickets start at $55 each for adults from what I saw, maybe they are available cheaper if you book farther out from your visit but I never saw anything less than $55. We paid slightly more but we booked a couple hours before our time.
We booked for 7 of us and selected our departure and return times even though I was unsure of how long it would actually take. When I exchanged our online booking confirmation for the actual tickets the lady at the counter told us they weren't that busy and that the times on our tickets would be flexible which was nice to know.
There was no line-up and we went up the gondola. The views on the way up are beautiful. Once we got to the top it was easy to follow the signage and find our way around. Three of us headed out on the boardwalk to the weather station while the older ones stayed behind in the main building. It was a fair distance to the end but an easy walk. The boardwalk is nice and wide with lots of room to stop without impeding traffic and there are some picture boards to read to add to the experience. And the views of course. You can see the entire area from the boardwalk and when you get to the end and make sure you touch the back board at the weather station to show you're done (that's my rule) After the walk out we realized the hardest part of the walk is the last few sets of stairs back up the the main building. So if you can walk out 5 minutes you've committed to the hardest part already.
There are lots of displays in the building and a movie and gift shop. The movie was good but the quality of the movie (the display, not the contents) were not nearly as good as they could have been. There were also a lot of seats blocked off due to Covid so our group had to split up into pairs and we took up most of the theater.
We spent a total of 2 hours here and never had lunch so I would base your estimated time at 1.5 hours if you don't feel the need or effort to walk to the end of the boardwalk and up to 3+ hours if you plan to have lunch.
It was a great experience and I guess what we paid for what we experienced it was worth it.

Overpriced experience but very nice staff! Maybe worth it to do on a day when the weather isn’t so nice and you don’t want to walk. The staff were great though. So nice to my kids!

An Extra Special Place, Extra Special People
Jun 2021
Aside from a view worth the ticket price x10 and the wonderful wildlife, some of the special employees at Banff Gondola stole the show for me. I ended up talking with many of them, learning about their home countries, about life or more about the local area. On two separate trips I ran into Clarence (Oh Boy) from Sri Lanka, who was working hard at two different stations during my visits. His positive energy, openness and welcoming spirit made this place very special for me. If you see him, make sure to say hello, he will make you feel like family.

Thank you to all, including some of the guests, that were kind and friendly, making this special moment at the top, a warm one.

Met a good man doing good things for good reasons
May 2021 • Solo
I was having a tough day yesterday and decided to go for a climb at sulpher mountain to relieve the stress. I met Gandi at the ticket booth and it wasn't very busy so we had some time to talk about life I got some things off my chest and Id like to say this world would be a better place if there were more workers like Gandi.

Just want to give a shout out to Nathan in the gift shop. He is very friendly and accommodating. He helped us purchase gifts for our family back in Niagara. He is new to Banff, but definitely an asset to your crew.
