As part of a group of seven friends that recently took the Columbia ice fields & skywalk tour, we couldn’t say enough good things about the whole experience.
Jeff, our guide was informative and attentive the whole day.
His knowledge of the area both historical and recent was second to none
Can’t recommend highly enough

Good afternoon,
Thank you for leaving us a wonderful review for our Columbia Ice-fields Parkway Tour - we are so happy to enjoyed the experience start to finish. Jeff is full of stories and knowledge of the area along with of course all the incredible places you stop for sightseeing along with the glacier walk and the sky walk as well. Beautiful day, we were luck the smoke was completely away the day we did the excursion. Nice stops on the way to the Glacier and back to Banff, including Bow Lake. Very well organized excursion, the schedule is perfect. Excellent guide (Jeff), very well organized, attentive and knowledgeable. The picnic formula for lunch is perfect. This excursion is worth the price to sit back, relax and fully enjoy the scenery of the wonderful Glacier parkway.

My daughter (8 years old) and I went to the Glacier with Jeff who is great guy. He was nice and great. We did few stops for a small hike, take pictures. Definitely I recommend to take the tour to go there to learn and visit places that you normally don’t do when you travel by yourself. Jeff, stopped many time to let us to see the bears. Thank you so much.

Hi Trina,
Thank you for joining us on the first Columbia Icefields Parkway Tour of the year! We're so glad that you and your daughter were able to join us, and that you enjoyed the tour with Jeff - and even saw some bears. The Icefields Parwkay is just stunning at this time of year as the lakes start to thaw, and we're glad that you found it as special as we do. We hope to see you both back in Banff.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Columbia icefields glacier tour and skywalk together with the excellent information provided by our guide, Hugh.
A fulfilling and plentiful packed lunch provided and a few extra stops for the picnic and toilet breaks. We even slowed right down on the journey back to Banff when we saw a black bear!

Lovely day with Rob as our tour guide to some very scenic areas. On the way back though our bus had to pull over w/a flat tire. It was a bit scary at first as it was pretty jolting and we were on the side of the road for abt 30-45 min. But, Rob was calm and reacted quickly to call in for another bus to come and pick us up. All in all a great day.

My favourite part was the whole day. Tyler with discovery tours picked us up at our hotel and made the whole day fun. He was very informative and knowledgeable about the glaciers, the wildlife and the land. Then we had Brendan who took us out on the glacier tour. He was very funny and entertaining, even for being an oilers fan. I would definitely recommend doing this.

Loved the journey was able to stop off at alot of cool places for photo opportunities. The guides Brad and Marnie were fantastic and funny! Loved the glacier walk with Evan (who should have a lake named after him imo). Bonus we saw horned sheep and a black bear 🐻 on our journey!

We took this tour expecting it to be on a full size coach, after all it is 10 hours. But it was on a 24 seater shuttle bus type vehicle. It rattled and struggled but worst of all the visibility was appalling. It is a scenic drive, with most things being high up and if it was not on your side of the coach then you couldn’t see it. The commentary was excellent from Anick but it’s like listening to the TV when you can’t see the screen. Other operators offer full size coaches, it would be a great tour on an appropriate vehicled

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on the Columbia Icefields Parkway Tour, and we're so happy to hear that you enjoyed Anick's tour and stories. We specialize in creating small personalized tours, which is our focus as a tour guiding company. We want our guides to be able to get all our guests individually, and believe that is very difficult to manage on a large coach. With small personalized tours in mind our company's decision is to have a fleet of 24 passenger buses and 12 passenger vans along with a maximum size of 24 guests for this tour. By h having smaller vehicles we are also able to pull over and stop at view points that the larger 56 passenger coaches cannot. Though it might not be what all visitors are looking for, we happily have positive reviews by many on our small group sizes.
We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in Banff.

This was an amazing trip to the glacier! It is worth taking this tour just to see the scenery on the way there and back, however the trip also included multiple stops along the way to see different sights which is a bonus. The guide, Aaron Bennet was fantastic, he was so knowledgeable, informative and had a great sense of humour. I was impressed by Aaron's knowledge of the history of the area, stories from across the decades as well as current projects/concerns regarding the environment. I have been on many bus tours both short and long and can say that the guide is the most important part of the day. Aaron was so conscientious in ensuring that we knew what was happening throughout the day, where to go for food/coffee/bathroom breaks as well as making sure we had his support at transition points at the glacier. It was clear that Aaron had gone out ahead to plan where the best stops were for the current weather conditions (still very snowy), which bathrooms/coffee shops were open (it is not yet tourist season) and where to see animals ( mountain goats!!). The lunch provided was very good and we really enjoyed eating it outside while watching the glacier. Thank you Aaron for a wonderful and memorable day we can honestly say it would not have been the same without you!

We willl be staying at an RV park approximately 2 miles from Banff. What RV parking locations in Banff are closest to your hotel pickup locations in Banff?

Hi David, thanks for your question. If you're driving the RV into Banff for this tour, there is either street parking or a 12 hour parking lot where RVs are welcome at the Fenlands Centre on Norquay Road. If you were to park here for the day, we would recommend selecting your pickup point as the Banff Park Lodge, approximately a 10 minute walk from the parking lot. The Town of Banff has more detailed information for parking, including RVs at banff - . - ca or banffparking - . - ca. We hope this helps!

Hi David, thanks for your question. We do pick up from the Tunnel Mountain Trail Court Campground on this tour, so we can pick you up and drop you of here if that's where you're staying. We are planning to visit in early July next year. Can anyone tell me if we will be stepping out on snow on any of these trips please?
DiscoverBanffTours
Banff, Canada2 contributions
Hi there, thank you for your question. You will be stepping onto the glacier for this tour, which will be icy. While it doesn't usually snow in July it is always colder on the glacier and so we recommend warm layers and a hat and gloves as well as comfortable covered shoes (sneakers are usually fine). If you're joining us on a hike, then we recommend preparing for all weather conditions including a rain jacket and sturdy hiking boots.

We are going to be located at Lamphouse, will there be a pickup from the hotel? And if it's a bad weather will this be canceled?
DiscoverBanffTours
Banff, Canada2 contributions
Hi Anthony,
Are you staying at the Lamphouse in Canmore? This tour doesn't pick up in Canmore, only from hotels in Banff. If you're staying in Canmore then we recommend getting the #3 bus to Banff and getting off at the Banff High School, and meeting us for your pickup across the road at the Elk and Avenue Hotel. Alternatively you can drive into Banff and park at the Fenlands Centre as it has free 12 hour parking and walk 10 minutes to the closest pickup at the Banff Park Lodge. Tours run rain or shine, unless the weather is extreme causing the roads or Icefields Centre to be closed (very rare, although it has occured once or twice at the very end of the season). We hope this helps.

We will be taking this tour in mid September. Do we need any special clothing like heavy jackets and boots. Or light coat and gym shows would be just fine?

Hello, thank you for your question.
It is colder on the glacier and so we recommend wearing warm clothes, including hats, gloves and warm shoes. Sturdy shoes are a great idea for this tour. As others have mentioned, layers is the perfect way to go!

If we take the tour on the 5th May what trail or road closures are we going to encounter? Where won't we be able to visit? If its not possible to visit places on the itinerary what are the alternative arrangements?

Hello, thank you for your enquiry. The tour will include the Glacier Adventure (the Ice Explorer bus onto the glacier and the Glacier Skywalk) at all times of year, but the additional stops tend to vary throughout the season as access roads are open or closed to sightseeing stops. The tour will certainly include Bow Lake, but extra stops that we usually include (such as Bridal Veil Falls and the Saskatchewan Crossing) vary throughout the year for this reason and also depending on the time of the Glacier Adventure tour as this varies day to day. Please note that this tour usually includes Peyto Lake, however access to this lake is closed in 2019 due to construction. We hope that helps!
