What to expect
Explore the dramatic glaciers of Banff and Jasper National Park on this adventurous Athabasca Glacier tour. Along the way, get a first-hand look at the key role these huge ice formations played in shaping the sweeping valleys, colorful alpine lakes, and soaring peaks of the region. Sit back and enjoy the ride along the Icefields Parkway, one of the world’s most stunning scenic drives. Because you don’t have to navigate or watch the road, this tour lets you focus on the amphitheatre of mountains towering above. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife at the edges of the forest. Dig into a hearty mountain picnic and take a photo stop at Bow Lake, one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park, against the backdrop of the Crowfoot Glacier. Climb aboard the Ice Explorer (a 6-wheeled behemoth of a vehicle) and drive across the surface of this glittering sheet of ice. Getting thirsty? You have a chance to drink pure, cold water straight from the glacier. You also walk the glass floor Glacier Skywalk, hanging from the edge of the Sunwapta Valley, for unparalleled views of the canyon below and mountains around you. Please note: This tour is seasonal, operating April through October.

My daughter (8 years old) and I went to the Glacier with Jeff who is great guy. He was nice and great. We did few stops for a small hike, take pictures. Definitely I recommend to take the tour to go there to learn and visit places that you normally don’t do when you travel by yourself. Jeff, stopped many time to let us to see the bears. Thank you so much.

Hi Trina, Thank you for joining us on the first Columbia Icefields Parkway Tour of the year! We're so glad that you and your daughter were able to join us, and that you enjoyed the tour with Jeff - and even saw some bears. The Icefields Parwkay is just stunning at this time of year as the lakes start to thaw, and we're glad that you found it as special as we do. We hope to see you both back in Banff.

I think we were extremely lucky to have Nick as a driver and guide. He was really pleasant and had such a chill vibe that it was easy to warm up to him. His commentary chatter throughout the journey was something that I kept paying attention to (and I usually just tune off). I also loved that Nick kept telling you what the journey and schedule was like and that he made a lot of quick stops, giving us ample time with the pictures and to soak up everything that was around us.

I appreciated that it was a small group, we had 20 in ours so that was a really good size. It was easy to get people back on the bus and we were really on time with everything.

We had Ronnie as our driver. She was fun and informative. She was able to make this trip a learning experience as well as a good sightseeing trip. She was very knowledgeable about the area and were able to give me satisfying responses for my questions. There were several stops along the way and we managed to take a few good snaps despite the low visibility level. Absolutely highly recommend. We got the whole package deal with the glacier as well as the skywalk. Definitely worth it.

Great tour, guide and overall fantastic journey

Rob, was our tour guide/driver for the day and he was outstanding. We made many stops for photos (and bathrooms). He was engaging, knowledgeable and attentive to our tour group. The Glacier is a once in a lifetime adventure. Everybody at the Glacier center was helpful and prompt on getting us to and from the Glacier. So many beautiful photo opportunities on the Glacier parkway. The day was full but interesting and enjoyable. Lastly Rob bought a bag of maple cookies for our tour group! They were delicious and made the trip back to Banff that much more enjoyable.

We took this tour expecting it to be on a full size coach, after all it is 10 hours. But it was on a 24 seater shuttle bus type vehicle. It rattled and struggled but worst of all the visibility was appalling. It is a scenic drive, with most things being high up and if it was not on your side of the coach then you couldn’t see it. The commentary was excellent from Anick but it’s like listening to the TV when you can’t see the screen. Other operators offer full size coaches, it would be a great tour on an appropriate vehicled

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on the Columbia Icefields Parkway Tour, and we're so happy to hear that you enjoyed Anick's tour and stories. We specialize in creating small personalized tours, which is our focus as a tour guiding company. We want our guides to be able to get all our guests individually, and believe that is very difficult to manage on a large coach. With small personalized tours in mind our company's decision is to have a fleet of 24 passenger buses and 12 passenger vans along with a maximum size of 24 guests for this tour. By h having smaller vehicles we are also able to pull over and stop at view points that the larger 56 passenger coaches cannot. Though it might not be what all visitors are looking for, we happily have positive reviews by many on our small group sizes. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in Banff.

Do this if you're in the area
Very interesting experience. Expensive, but how often to you get to do this? Drive onto glacier itself is fabulous. Not nearly as slippy as I thought it would be. Everyone on the bus managed out onto the glacier, some quite far - no-one fell over. The area you can onto is v small and cordoned off. You feel safe.

We enjoyed our trip with Hugh as our guide
It was very professional and well organized. The stops along the way were stunning.
We enjoyed our lunch watching a mountain goat up on the ridge that Hugh pointed out to everyone.
