- JonJ4000 contributionsQuite an adventure! The Rio Secreto was quite an adventure. We did the Cenote + tour, which included two ziplining experiences and one rappel experience., as well as a short bike ride and hike. I deducted a star because it was not clear (at least to me) that the water level in a couple of spots in the cave is deep and requires one to swim or float a short distance. This was not an issue for most of our group. However, I experienced much anxiety when suddenly, my feet no longer touched the floor of the cave, as I am not a good swimmer. Also, be aware that some of the rocks on the cave floor are uneven, and some are jagged. I strongly recommend you opt for "Walking Stick." Again, most of those in my group did not have any problems with the suddenly deeper water. This was a personal issue. The meal after the tour was very good. The photographer's photos taken in the cave were available for purchase for 100 USD. I recommend this excursion. The unique and rare formations in the cave are worth seeing.Written 20 November 2024
- L8396FBbarryf0 contributionsHighlight of our tripWe just returned from our trip to Playa. I don't normally write reviews, but this tour was quite special. The cave/river tour was amazing with a refreshing underwater river with "living" stalagities every where you looked. The trip also included a nice meal and ended the day at the Mayan ruins in Tulum. Special shout out to our guide Tianara who made the experience even better. I have already recommend her to friends visiting this week The only negative is the price they charge for pictures (and cameras are prohibited). I couldn't bring myself to pay what they were asking.Written 17 November 2024
- 357kark0 contributionshorrible show, overcrowded, overrated - not worththis place is over rated, their show is worth only for $30 to $40. they keep selling ticket more than the capacity. you will not even have a space to stand. domestic drinks are printed in the ticket but very hard to get from them. they only serve the vip pass tickets. show was very basic, the space for performance was very tiny. looks like a amateur show. incase of an emergency guests can't exit this place.. try other clubs in the city.Written 16 November 2024
- T5179EAmariav0 contributionsI recommend this excursion!!This was one of the best Tours I've done. Our tour guide was Tainara, and she was awesome. She was very knowledgeable about the caves and the crystals that grow there. She made me feel at ease as I am very clumsy and she caught me as I stumbled a few times on the rocks. They also provided a Mayan lunch which was really tasty. I would recommend to anyone that is in the area and wants to try something different.Written 16 November 2024

- cassandraf4470 contributionsBest-Kept Secret - Rio SecretoOkay, this is an excursion that you do NOT want to miss. I traveled to Mexico for work and the ONLY thing I wanted to do for myself was see the Mayan ruins in Tulum - so when presented with Rio Secreto at the hotel I stayed at (Hilton Mar Caribe!) and they offered me an all-day (6:55am-5:00pm) trip that gave me an added bonus of SWIMMING INSIDE A CAVE, I elected to go for it! Now, I am traveled solo, but it wasn’t even an issue. I woke up and caught the beginning of the sunrise over Cancun, then headed toward the front of the resort to meet the driver. A sprinter van pulled up, and Cesar greeted me with a smile and asked to see my ticket. We traveled to three other hotels to pick up a couple of families (no small children in my tour group, but definitely a baby or two as we went on!) and a couple of couples. Cesar was knowledgeable about the land, jovial, friendly, played good music, and paid excellent attention to the road. He was such an accommodating driver and I’m grateful to have met him! We stopped at a gas station after about 45 minutes or an hour to allow anyone on board to use the restroom, and I purchased a bottle of water. When we got to Rio Secreto, we met Tainara - our tour guide. All smiles and bouncy personality, she prepared us for what was to come: she taught us about respecting the space we were about to enter, she was playful and thoughtful, and kept close watch over the elders in our group. First, we put on our required water shoes and swimsuits, then locked our belongings in a locker that we received a lock and key for: our clothes, phones, cameras, and other valuables went into the locker. Next, we took a shower that drew water directly from the cave and used that as a basis to determine who would be more comfortable in a wetsuit. (I elected to have one!) The wetsuit was relatively easy to put on, and had a long string you can use if you’re traveling solo! What a relief! At this point, you are given a hardhat with a light affixed and a life vest that Tainara ensured fit each of us the right way. Here, we met Lareidis - our photographer for the cave experience. He took wonderful photos (yes, we bought them!) throughout the duration, assisted us as the ground became more difficult to navigate, and also helped get someone back to surface when she realized that an underground cave filled with water really wasn’t her idea of fun! Let’s backtrack though - before entering the cave, we were invited to participate in a ceremony by a Mayan elder who blessed us from wherever we came, and invited safety on our journey. What a beautiful place! It was living art, and my goodness I was so thrilled with how excited Tainara was as she led us through the environment. I had the most amazing journey and experience - we swam together, played a little bit, meditated, and learned about the life underground. As we had many in our party who weren’t fluent in Spanish, she spoke fluently in English and honored us with Spanish when someone spoke Spanish to her. There were a couple of cenotes in the cave, which were such a holy feeling to witness. The grounds are kept well preserved - it’s literally swimming inside a natural history museum! Each time one of our group elders needed extra assistance, either of our guides stepped in without even being asked! It felt like the reverence that was due to the place of worship was greatly honored and it was such a pleasure to have this experience. I will definitely be bringing people back as much as I can! When we finished the cave system, I had 10 new friends, I swear! We trekked back to the starting point and then got back into the clothes we started in, depositing the borrowed lock and key, water shoes, wetsuit, and life vests. Time for buffet! We started with a shot of traditional Mayan alcoholic drink - shoot it! It was reminiscent of anise and very, very good! What interesting dishes and fresh Jamaica tea! We got to view the photos and had the remaining 25 minutes before disembarking for Tulum! Once back inside the van, we drove for 45 minutes and some napped and some stayed awake - most importantly, our driver from before - Cesar! Two hours was the time allotment for the Mayan ruins - and again, here Tamara stood out - she gave us so much juicy information about the culture, the collapse, the disappearance of, and the gods of the Mayans. She knew about their foods, drinks, animals, planting seasons, and had some of her own curiosities that haven’t ever been answered - why seven fingers? She showed us photos of what the ruins would have looked like in the 1200’s - what exquisite beauty! I had no idea and I am so glad that I took a chance. Anywho… I’m sure that if you have read this far, you’re going to go on your own journey here - one of the BEST decisions you will make in your lifetime. Words of advice: eat before you go! This is hard work! If you decide that it isn’t for you, be brave and speak up! There is no shame in deciding that you cannot continue! Take pictures at the ruins - I am sure that with the continued hurricanes, they won’t be here forever. Bug spray and sunblock are good friends of yours. Get rid of the plastic water bottles - they aren’t allowed in Tulum! No, you can’t bring a tripod, I •tried• You can bring a camera though! Please tip your driver, guide, and food helpers, consider leaving a review. They survive on tourists!Written 8 November 2024
- avilasj0 contributionsA must do!!!Everyone at this place was top notch. It’s very affordable. I took an Uber from my resort but had to have them schedule a van for the return ride because there was no Uber connection available. Pepe was our guide and he was amazing!! We had small children and one handicapped individual in our group which he handled so eloquently that everyone was super happy at the end. The cave itself is unreal!! Be prepared to pay for pics. I am not usually the one to buy pics from a trip but these came out so beautiful I purchased the entire package!! It’s a one of a kind adventure that everyone will remember for the rest of their natural life. Thank you Pepe for such a wonderful experience!!Written 5 November 2024
- adimer0 contributionsAmazing experience, with a bitter end. This place is amazing.l The whole experience is well organized, starting with the fee parking (if you come by car), and accessible by public transportation. We came by taxi, which is not cheap if you are staying in a hotel as they are very organized in unions and have a fixed price for tourists. Check the various sites offering the tours as pricing varies, and sometimes with the available promo codes you can get a lower price than the on site ticket price. The price of the ticket includes all the equipment needed: water shoes, wet suit, helmet, head lamp, cane (yes, you want to take the cane with you even if you are fit). Once you check in and assigned a tour guide (depending on group size and the speaking language), you get on a minivan transfer about 3 miles away to the start point. You enter the underground river with your group, and the site is so huge that you don't meet or mingle with the other groups. Our group was just 2 couples including us, the guide and a photographer, so it felt like a private tour. The underground scenery is unbelievably beautiful, the guide is very knowledgeable and helpful and points to various formations, give an explanation of the geological and historical facts. Overall I highly recommend this trip if you are a nature lover. At the end of the trip ~ 2 hours, you are taken back by van to the start point, where you return the equipment and get your personal stuff (free lockers with locks included), and then served lunch. If your ticket includes transportation you will be then taken back to your hotel. There is also taxi services available on site. Cons: You are asked at the start NOT to take your phone or camera. I believe it is a liability issue, so if you don't ask you may take it at your own risk. The photographer that comes with the group takes many pictures along the way in specific spots, and at the end of the tour you can view the pictures on a desktop display. And here is the catch. You can buy the pictures $15 each or pay $120 for all the pictures. For a ticket that costs $85 per person (without transportation, which is extra depending on where you are coming from), it is a rip off. There is no justification to charge that much for digital pictures that have $0 cost to process. It leaves you with a very bad taste at the end of an amazing experience. I would have given it a 5 star if it wasn’t for the pictures issue. Overall recommended.Written 5 November 2024

- yvette33390 contributionsWe had a blast! The Secret River Cave excursion in Mexico was an absolute blast! Our guides, Addie and Manuel, were fantastic, offering a perfect mix of fun and knowledge that made the experience even more enjoyable. The group sizes were ideal—about 8 people—so it never felt crowded. Upon arrival, we were equipped with everything we needed: a shortie wet suit, a helmet fitted with a light, water shoes, a life jacket, and even an optional walking stick for those who preferred it. These provisions were essential for navigating the cave's terrain safely and comfortably. After a fascinating Mayan blessing, the real adventure begins. Yes, this excursion is physically active, and you’ll be in the cave for a couple of hours, but it’s definitely manageable. I was hesitant after reading some stern reviews, especially since I’m older and out of shape, but I’m so glad I went! It’s worth pushing yourself because the experience is unforgettable. If you're looking for an exciting, unique adventure in Mexico, this is a must-do! The buffet lunch at the end of our expedition was delicious—photographs of the excursions were personalized and available at the lunch location. Brace yourself they are pricey but worth the memory. Overall, the Secret River excursion exceeded all expectations. It's an unforgettable opportunity to witness Mexico's hidden treasures firsthand, making it a must-do for anyone seeking adventure and natural beauty in equal measure.Written 13 October 2024

We had a great time on this tour, however felt it was a little disjointed and not quite as advertised. In the write up description when booking I was expecting the trip to Tullum first, followed by zip line then a ‘Mayan lunch’ and rappelling into a cenote to finish. What we actually got was starting with zip lining, followed by cenote swim and lunch in a sort of outdoor canteen at the centre where the zip line activity was and then we went off to Tullum. There was no Mayan lunch nor rappelling! So although we did have a great time enjoying everything we did, I felt a bit short changed! The guide acknowledged that we did not get chance to do the rappelling, this was due to the rest of our group doing the atv instead of zip line and so we were out of sinc and did not have time to do the rappelling. I have no idea what happened to the Mayan lunch but we were not offered any refunds or compensation and so feel it was slightly over priced for what we got.

My friend and I had such an amazing experience here :) The title says 4x4 ride but that was not included, we were too excited to even remember asking about it. However the zip lining was so cool, doing the small ritual before going into the jungle was very interesting and was really calming. The cenotes were beautiful and although they were a little cold at first, It was easy to adjust. Hugo, our guide throughout the jungle was filled with a lot of enthusiasm and funny. He really made the experience enjoyable. He definitely knew his information on the park.
Jose our tour guide into Tulum was very informative and awesome. He provided alot of interesting information about Tulum, the Mayans' and their culture. Unforgettable experience!
Overall a must have experience when visiting the Yucatan Peninsula :)

12/21/22- The adrenaline rush was amazing. The activities were great. The staff was nice. It was worth the adventure. Highly recommend.
The van ride to the tour took about 2 hours. We wanted to drive but they said no because the location was private. We had to switch vans and drivers several times. You cannot take pictures and are left deciding if you want to purchase their photos. And although they took great photos and videos the price was $155 usd. Little steep in my opinion. We did not purchase we have the permanent memories with us. So the transportation and the cost of photos we didn’t care for but it didn’t stop us from having an amazing time.
The staff was very kind. My husband got sick right before we visited the ruins and the driver was very kind in helping us. Thank you for your kindness.

This is an amazing tour. You get picked up from your hotel by your guide. Our Gide was Miguel. We first went to Tulum.
Miguel's knowledge of Tulum and the Maya was amazing. While at Tulum, Miguel gave an amazing history of Tulum, the Mayas, and the Yucatán peninsula. He continued to answer questions regarding the Mayas after we left Tulum. The view from Tulum was incredible. The architecture was neat to see. It was interesting to learn that the Mayas built their buildings in correspondence with the sun and the seasons.
After Tulum we went to a zipline course. Before the ziplines you meet with a Maya shaman who performs a blessing ritual on your group.
We did 5 ziplines with one ending in a cenotes. The ziplines were very safe and you are doubly secured to the lines. I felt safe having my 9 year old go on the course.
You also have the opportunity to rappel ~50 feet into a cenote. This was also done safely.
You have a chance to swim in two different cenotes. One of the snorkeling/swimming cenotes is done with flashlights through a small cave system. This could be someone scary for someone who is claustrophobic; however, for the adventurous is awesome. We were able to see multiple freshwater fish and discuss how the cave/cenotes system developed over time.
After the adventure is over you get to eat a meal that is prepared for you by the local Maya. The fresh corn tortillas (they make them in front of you) chicken tacos were amazing. It was my family's favorite meal of our trip.
The pictures they take of you, which cost extra, are very well done. I would recommending spending the money at the end of the excursion to purchase the pictures.

The snorkeling in the cenote is soooo beautiful best part of the tour. Do not be scared off by the cold water it is definitely worth adjusting to. I would recommend them swapping the tour and doing tulum first then end with the zip lines and cenotes.

We had THE BEST time! Unfortunately due to COVID, Tulum was closed and we weren’t able to do the ruins tour. We did do the cenotes park portion of the activity and it was amazing! Our guides, Eric and Jorge were funny, welcoming, so friendly, and full of information about the area, history and cenotes.
We lucked out that we were the first group of the day and it was only my friend and I. So we got a more personal one on one experience and we had the whole place to ourselves for the first part of the tour. We even had a little extra time to freely swim in the cenotes at the end.
The ziplining was fun as well! Eric and Jorge were all about safety and made it so fun!
They provided us with lunch at the end, and it was delicious!!!
I would definitely recommend this tour!
We did purchase our picture package. We selected the link and the clerk made sure we got the link to our email before we left.

We went on an all day adventure from Playa del Carmen which included zip-lining, ATV's, cenote "swimming" and a stop at Tulum. CJ, our guide was outstanding. Can't say enough about what a great guide he was. Our only disappointment, which was really no one's fault, was the short amount of time we had at Tulum (the last stop of the day). We arrived there at 2:30 and had to leave at 3:30, and it's a 15 minute into the ruins from the parking area and a 15 minute walk back, so we only had about 30 minutes at the ruins, not enough time. On a future trip, I'd book an excursion exclusively for the the ruins, or at least one that offers more time there.

Had an amazing time! Our family explored the Mayan’s Ruins, did ziplining, explored the Cenote, and Snorkeling. Our Mayan’s Ruins tour guide Robertho was extremely knowledgable, Alex was a great tour guide through all of our adventures, and our driver Robert ensure we got see several areas from and to our excursion. The beginning of our trip was going well our driver Juan Pablo drove amazing and Jens was very knowledgeable including our tour guide to Tulum ruins Raul was great! But that was about it i had called prior to purchasing regarding accommodations due to weight limit, they verbalized and agreed to accommodate the zip-lines and repelling rope which they did not and even stated they were short handed and my brother in law would have to walk to meet us at the cenotes we asked for a refund for his ticket, they refused. Our trip stopped there and no activities were done

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. We are really sorry you decided to stop doing the activities. The weight limit in this activity is for the passenger security, we could not accommodate a refund since the tour already starts.

Fantastic day trip! There had to be at least 10 zip lines across the forest, followed by the roller coaster zip line followed by the quad side-by-side riding and ending up with bungee jumping and then a swim in the cenote!! I highly recommend this to everyone. They do not offer this at the main desks, you have to go talk to a best day travel agent. They get you a far better deal and have way more to offer than the ones in the lobby.

If we booked this trip for a party of 9, if 3-4 did not want to do zip-lining, is this something that they can pass on and wait til the rest of the party is done zip-lining?

They would have to walk through the jungle without the guide for the duration of the excursion. We had a similar situation and the 1 in our party just decided to go.
