Overview
Snorkel in three cenotes surrounded by thick jungle on a full-day adventure tour from Mérida, visit a traditional herbal ‘drugstore,’ and get a glimpse of life in a local village. This small-group tour includes transport from Mérida by public transit and moto-taxi, snorkeling equipment, and entrance fees to the cenotes.
What to Expect
Make your way to the Mérida city center where this tour begins, and meet a guide and small group for the trip out of town on public transit. This is the perfect way to get oriented to Mérida’s bus system as you travel to a small Maya village beyond the city limits.

Trade your seat on the bus for a 4-person, open-sided moto taxi, and head deeper into the jungle to find the first of three cenotes. Learn about the geology of these unground limestone caves, which link up freshwater rivers beneath the surface of the Yucatan Peninsula. Descend a narrow staircase into each cenote, then slip into the cool water to snorkel and swim in the deep caverns.

Continue to a nearby village to see the traditional side of life in the Yucatan and discover local medicine traditions firsthand. See where ancient herbal remedies are prepared in the village ‘drugstore,’ and how families share knowledge across generations. After visiting the village, make the return trip to Mérida, where this tour concludes—if desired, you can keep exploring cenotes on your own, with instructions from the guide on how to get back to Mérida.

Had a legendary trip through several cenotes and through several areas in and around Merida. Our guide, Gustavo, took us to three cenotes in varying size, where the water was crystal clear 20 metres down. The caves within the cenotes were awe-inspiring; they looked like...More
