Experience a side of Merida rarely seen by tourists on this half-day culinary tour. Let a guide navigate the labyrinth of a local market for you and purchase seasonal ingredients with the help of their translation. The afternoon cooking class is held in the home of a local family, who teaches you the secrets of Yucatan cuisine.
What to Expect

Meet a guide at 1pm in the heart of historic Merida. After a short ride in an air-conditioned minivan, arrive at a local market rarely visited by tourists. The guide navigates the labyrinth of stalls, pointing out ingredients you may not recognize on your own.

Return to the minivan after purchasing ingredients for the afternoon cooking class. On arrival at the home of a local family, choose from a selection of traditional recipes, including black-bean tostadas and fried tortillas.

Experience a side of Mexico rarely available to visitors as the host family takes you through the recipe. During the cooking class, the guide teaches you about how the cuisine, traditions, and history of the Yucatan differ from the rest of Mexico.

After enjoying the meal in good company, the guide arranges a taxi back to central Merida (own expense).

Fantastic food and tour

Gustavo was a brilliant guide, full of lots of interesting stories and insights. The cooking was a great experience and Gus's aunt and grandmother were welcoming hosts! Fantastic tour, would highly recommend.

The guided trip through the market was fun. We learned a lot about Yucatecan food, along with a few historical and cultural tidbits. Gustavo was quick to point out reasonable substitutions once we get home. For example, mix grapefruit and orange juice to get sour...More
