The Little Engine That Couldn't (and Didn't)
Where to start? This St. Kitts Scenic Train Tour never happened despite the fact that we booked it weeks in advance. I don't know where to place the blame, but I think there's enough to go around. We (a family group of five adults) booked and paid through Tripadvisor for a Monday afternoon departure, which we'd scheduled for our second full day on the island so we'd get a sense of places we might want to re-visit later in the week. But several days before we left for St. Kitts, we heard from a different tour outfit (Viator; I don't know if there's a business relationship with Tripadvisor there) that the guide narration on the trip we'd booked was going to be in German and they didn't have the headsets for an English translation. (Tripadvisor hadn't told us that.) They wanted us to re-book for a different departure. So we re-booked for the next available afternoon tour, which was two days later -- Wednesday. That wasn't ideal because it was going to cut into our time for re-visits, but we agreed. Then on Wednesday, when we reported to the pickup location, we were told there'd be a half-hour delay before the bus would arrive to take us to the start of the train tour. We could live with that, too ... except that 20 minutes later, we were informed that the Wednesday afternoon tour was canceled altogether. No explanation. After some confusing emails back and forth with the second tour operator (Viator), we were offered a Friday morning excursion. That was our last full day on the island, but we agreed to it because we still hadn't seen much of St. Kitts outside of our resort. (We'd postponed doing a different island tour because we'd paid for the Scenic Train Tour.) So ... Thursday night, an email comes in from Viator: Yep, the Friday morning tour was canceled, too. Extremely frustrating. The only positive I can mention out of the whole very aggravating experience is that the refund of our tickets for the original itinerary came promptly. Bottom line: Be VERY wary of counting on the Scenic Train Tour.

      Multiple Cancellations- mechanical problems
This really is less a review of the tour (which we would expect to be 4 - 5 stars but a comment on availability. We were booked for Monday 27 Jan, got rebooked to Wed 29 Jan, and finally to Friday 31 Jan - all were cancelled: “We do apologize but the train tour is cancelled for tomorrow. The mechanics have not been completed.” Hopefully repairs will be completed - hope to take this tour on our next visit!

      Give this ride a pass
I would not recommend. Our trip was longer by 55 minutes when the train just stopped. The track is old and poorly maintained. As a result the ride is very rocky and unstable. Just does not feel safe any longer, and most unfortunately.

      Great Time with Clayton
Clayton was an outstanding host. The tour was fun and very informative. We stopped at Lime's for lunch (on the beach next to the four seasons). It was outstanding. Get the Mahi-Mahi. It was the best fish I've ever had. The ferry ride was fun even though the water was a bit wavy. Make sure you check in with the tour company when you hit the island to make sure they are aware of where you are staying (so they can pick you up). Remember they truly are on island time so be patient. Overall this was an outstanding experience for my family.

Great tour, great drinks, great scenary.
This was actually a fun way to see a lot of the island. Beautiful scenery, wonderful narrative by Jackie, great complementary drinks (great pina coladas and mango daiquiries), did I mention the rum they use is 151 proof? We had a wonderful driver to and from the train in his bus #2, named Curt. Would highly recommend.

      Scenic Railroad
While the train was rustic and swayed ALOT possibly making some queasy and the engine belched acrid smoke, the tour actually was fabulous giving us a glimpse of how people here truly live and where they live and seeing the entire island not just tourist areas. It was a must-see for us!!!

      Great Service
We were unsure of when we wanted to go on this tour and I booked this tour late in the afternoon the day before we decided to go. As soon as I booked the tour I received a call. Very impressive response. They were early to pick us up in the monring and was already waiting for us when the tour was completed. Really great service with Tropical Tours. Will use them again if I need to.

      Not worth the cost!!
Definitely skip this one! Longest 2+ hours of our lives! The tour guide talked constantly and highlights were repeated. It was a miserable, uncomfortable experience. We complained to Celebrity about the cost. It was WAYYY too expensive for the experience. They should take it off their excursion options.

      Enjoyable and historical
We enjoyed the tour. We learned a lot of historical information about Nevis. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient with our group. The communication about the pickup time was sub-par, but everything worked out well.

      Not what we expected
We were really looking forward to this tour but we were sadly disappointed. The views were beautiful and you got to see parts of the island that you don't see from a car. Unforantely the PA system was AWFUL. We couldn't hear anything that (or very little) that the tour guide was saying. If we could have heard what was being said then it would have been a much better tour. The drinks were a nice added bonus. We felt that the dancers that came on board we unnecessary. It took away from the experience of viewing the island. The first time was ok but there was no reason for them to come on board and dance for a second time. Ultimately if they would get the PA system working then it would have been a much better experience.

Young guides were excepcional in all aspects, extremely proud of their jobs and St. Kitts. It was nice to have them supporting us.

      Breathtakingly Beautiful Mountain Hike!
This absolutely incredible experience was the highlight of our 2-week trip to the Caribbean! Our guide, Adrian, was extremely knowledgeable and made the hike fun for everyone in our group who had different levels of hiking experience. The mountain was breathtakingly beautiful, and the hike was challenging enough to satisfy our group's more skilled hikers. Fair warning, though: if you are not a hiker, not in decent shape, and/or not accustomed to the heat, you should join a rainforest hike and not a hike to the crater. For those looking to enjoy nature's beauty and get a great workout, this is the tour for you!

      A special train ride
The train ride was quite interesting. Built for the sugar cane industry that has since passed, the ride brings you along the coast and mountains. Free rum drinks and cultural dances added to the joy. Our guide spoke non-stop for 90 minutes. She was immensely knowledgeable and interesting.

Our driver was great. He showed us Timothy Hill before taking us to South Friar's Beach. My tip- walk the 5 minutes to Shipwreck Beach Bar and Grill! They have free chairs, a way more casual vibe and a great reef right out front to snorkel on! (They rent gear there too) The beach club area is good for jetskiing but I am SO glad we saw the black sand further down! The beach club has more regular sand. Nice sand and beach all around. More open for swimming at the beach club region (less reef) but I recommend walking to see the black and shimmering sand to at least go and see or if you have time, snorkel the reef right off the beach!

Richie, our driver, was enjoyable. He showed us some of the highlights of the area before taking us to the beach (Carambola Beach Club at Friar's Bay, nice place). I'm giving this 3 stars, however, for the following reasons. We had about 2 hours on the beach. It cost $30 to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella. We would have loved to have stayed longer. We were the only ones on the tour. When we were picked up at the scheduled time, Richie told us that we could have scheduled at later pick up (didn't know, as the tour said 3 hours). We also could have asked the restaurant to call company to ask for a later pick up. If we were told this when we were dropped off, it would have made all the difference. If you take this tour, ask those questions.
