About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- edsO322HR0 contributionsSo-SoI booked the horse drawn covered wagon ride followed by dinner. It was end of the season and most things had shut down, so this was one of the few things still available. I wouldn’t recommend it for a solo traveler. In my case, I was the lone rider amongst a tour group visiting from Europe. English was not their native language, and it was not spoken. Surprisingly awkward for an American in America.Written 30 September 2024
- captainplanet5670 contributionsFun time on an ATVWe had a very fun time. It was an awkward start, but with a little training we were off and riding. We all stayed on the path and went to two or three stops with a meal in between, pretty much exactly as advertised. Consider a microphone for the bus driver. Thanks for a fun time.Written 30 September 2024
- JaneMoysey0 contributionsDenali golf course was awful! This was on the recommended tours offered by Princess cruise lines, shame on them! It was terrible. And dangerous. Rental clubs were a mish-mash, you had to try put a complete set together yourself, cart was a junker, fairways were ungroomed and you couldn't differentiate the "greens" from the so called fairway. Several of the fairways ran adjacent to each other with opposing tee boxes so the group in front was hitting almost straight at us. As their lovely brochure pictures show ... the views were great, but all views in Alaska are great. Avoid wasting your time and money on this course.Written 23 September 2024

- AlexanderR32460 contributionsEnjoyed it!We enjoyed the side-by-side ATV tour with Danny and Michael. They were fun and informative, and the food was pretty solid for what it was. We didn't get dirty at all even though we drove through a lot of mud puddles.Written 21 September 2024
- NorthStar378529770170 contributionsGreat tour guides, food, and adventure! The trails were challenging, but so much fun! Our guides were informative, helpful, and so attentive. I didn't know there would be a meal, and what a pleasant surprise! All the food was delicious and plentiful! I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone. The trails were rough, dirty, and a great time. Go for this tour! A great price for everything included. It won't disappoint.Written 18 September 2024
- 510juliannas0 contributionsAmazing ATV adventure! We had an amazing time on the side by side ATV tour! We stopped at a few different places with incredible views and had an amazing meal halfway through the tour. Seriously the food was so good my boyfriend says it was his favorite meal of our entire Alaskan vacation! Our tour guide, Sage, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area and he took some great photos of us. Highly recommend doing this tour!Written 18 September 2024

- AnnPittsburgh_PA0 contributionsFun afternoon!Fun afternoon with Black Diamond Resort riding a side by side with my husband. We were only ones on our tour. Guide, can't remember his name, was great! Rode all over on fun trails through lots of puddles! We stopped 5 times for scenic views/pictures. Would definitely recommend BDR!Written 15 September 2024
- deborahk1760 contributionsATV Fun!We really enjoyed our ATV ride with our guide Jonathon. He took us through many trails, mud, puddles and even a creek! We had dinner in a cabin in the woods with all of the others on Black Diamond tours that evening, including horse drawn carriages. The meal was really good and hearty and Jonathon was a great server. We had a great time! If I had one critique it would be that Black Diamond needs to invest in a real safety video as the “Polaris new owners” one that they show is not appropriate since they are not even using that brand of ATV’s.Written 14 September 2024
- Jlcliff0 contributionsFun off road tripFirst time trying an off road adventure like this and we had a blast. Staff was professional and helpful and our guides Martin and Lucy were great. Weather was rainy but mud made the trails more fun. Lunch was better than I expected for a cabin in the woods in Alaska. Length of trip was perfect, a few stops for pictures, etc.Written 13 September 2024

Jonathan was fantastic, so friendly, and gave us the best adventurous ride. Our cheeks ached from smiling and laughing so much. Food was delicious. They did such a great job. I would do this excursion again.Written 11 September 2024

Took the time to stop and explain many of the outstanding features in the area. Ross was especially great when we came across 4 Moose that were walking across our trail. He was calm and professional the whole time!!!Written 4 September 2024

Jun 2022 • Family
Scheduled for 7:45pm, but began at 8:30.
Wagon & “guide” banter was nothing special & didn’t even entertain the kids. Employees were nice, but wearing personal clothing, neither neat, nor thematic. Service was simply inept. Expected a “chuck wagon trail’ meal, cooked before us. Meal was cooked prior to our arrival & served inside of a cabin type bldg with paper cups/napkins (unimpressive).
Food was sparse & presented family style to a table of (10) people, from four separate groups.
A single fillet of salmon (8-10iz) for the table? A plate of beef ribs (1/ea), a bowl of chili for the table (to be spooned onto your plate), some cob corn, corn muffins, potato salad & pasta salad. Dessert was inedible. Beverage selection consisted of box wine, child size apple juice container, and water. No extra portions offered.
I am not hard to please, but this experience offered no entertainment value and lacked in quality of service/product. A wasted evening.

The driver and narrator were polite and friendly. The wagon was in poor shape with a plastic roof that did not allow views of the area. We stopped twice to take pictures or get off the wagon but the places were not very interesting for picture taking. The food at the end was cheap and came out of a container. The food set out for the employees looked much more appealing and nutritional. For $ 94.00 per person we felt that this was a rip off.

Linda was a very personable and helpful guide! She really did a great job getting us all engaged and interested with friendly conversation and talking to and educating our family. She knew how to communicate well with parents when we needed to help our kids. (She was patient with us as we were traveling with a young toddler.) Her flexible style as a tour guide helped us not feel self conscious so we could have fun on the trip! The wagon and horses were a hit with the kids of course. We enjoyed the majestic mountain backdrop with the horses. Then we reached the cookhouse where good food kept coming! The yummy food is a big selling point for this tour! The value of this tour can’t be understated! You are basically getting a narrated, entertaining horse drawn ride with a giant meal, all for the price you would pay to eat at a nice restaurant. Bravo to Linda and her July 2023 team!

We (2 couples) decided to go on this excursion the first night we were in Denali. It went smoothly and the food was plentiful and tasty. The trip began with Larry picking us up at the Princess Wilderness Lodge. It took about 15 minutes to get to the Black Diamond property. The large group was divided into 2 groups of 14 people for each covered wagon. We rode in the wagon with Kai leading the two horses on a dirt road for about an hour to the building where the dinner was served. Alyssa, our guide was well prepared and encouraged the participants to introduce themselves and to ask questions. She kept us entertained with stories and facts about the area during our trip. This was a great trip and I would recommend it to others.

What a fun experience! We found out about this event while eating at the Black Diamond Restaurant one night and seeing all the people gather for it on the deck. We asked the staff about it and decided this was an event we couldn't miss. Rachel and Kai were our guides and they did everything they could to make our journey enjoyable. Rocky and Turbo did their part as well - pulling us along with plenty of antics to keep us entertained. Oh - and the dinner was great, too! I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys hearing local tales of the area while riding in a carriage that reminds you of simpler times and sharing it with guests from all over the world.

The covered wagon and dining experience were great.
The problem was that the school bus used for transportation to the event site did not have a microphone. The poor young man who was driving - Larry - who is indigenous - had to strain his naturally soft voice in order to be heard. Not good!
He did a great job but we fell very sorry for him and outraged that he had to endure straining his voice like that.
Put a microphone on the school busses like the other modes of transport we took.

We took a covered wagon ride to a great family style meal as an excursion on the land portion of our cruise in June 2023. The ride was excellent with our guide Rachel giving us a lot of information about the history and geological make-up of the area. She was very impressive, informative and engaging. Our driver Michael was great in guiding the horses (Volt and Wyatt) throughout the journey. We actually saw a Moose and her calf come out of the woods to a small pond on the way back from our meal! Highly recommend this tour to give you a feel for what the early settlers experienced.

Wagon driver Michael and guide Linda were excellent young people who seemed to truly enjoy their work. Horses Bolt and Prince were great, too. I don’t know exactly what I expected as far as the dinner but I know I didn’t get it!! I ate almost nothing as nothing was very good. The wagons took us to a cabin and we were seated at long tables and the food was brought to us one item at a time and even though the hosts worked hard it didn’t improve the quality of the food-chicken wings cut in half and only one piece per person, ribs with no meat, one per person, small cob of corn, soupy potato salad, cold slaw, tasteless pasta salad-it was just a disappointing meal

We choose this adventure to experience the slow mode of travel. The wagon had 3 steps to get inside and there were hand rails. The ride into the back country included a stop at a cabin where pre covid you ate but now houses a huge cast iron stove and casts of animals tracks. We were given a drink and a cookie to start with, then a snack box with cheese and crackers, grapes and sausage and that was followed by a massive dinner. You could have two alcoholic drinks or non alcoholic, chicken, ribs, salmon and 3 kinds of salads plus beans, cornbread and corn. Just when you think you’ll explode desert arrives!! So if you walk away hungry shame on you. We did have a vegan in our party and they accommodated them nicely!! They picked us up and delivered us to our hotel at no extra cost. They only reason I did not give them 5 stars was no real animal sightings or really good history and/or folklore stories. We did learn about crazy Gale but was Gale really crazy if he solved the permafrost issues by using carpet and got the flight pattern over his house to a no fly zone!!!! It was a slow, enjoyable journey with tons of food!!

Was very excited for this excursion when picked up by Igore our driver! He was knowledgeable and very entertaining. We arrived to be met by warm cookies and a fire. Light rain was happening but didn’t dampen our spirits. We were on a wagon with 12 others and it was comfortable with the blankets they supplied. However our guide, James, spent most of the time talking about himself and his up coming adventures. When we asked questions about the area he lacked knowledge to answer them and asked the driver, Nina we think, to help answer them. Once at the dinner he seemed distracted while serving our group. On return trip he again talked mainly about himself so much that other guest began cutting jokes to try and bring him around. Didn’t seem to work. It was dark and raining and we just wanted it to be over. He was focused on two weeks left to the season and his up coming travels.
Food was good. But the shelter was a little cramped to be able to enjoy too much. Note there are only porta potties to use after dinner.
Over all would be a great adventure when not raining and in daylight.
