A perfect way to start the day
It wouldn't surprise me if Kenny had organised the magical sunny and still morning on Ohope beach as everything about our kayak trip was perfect. Safety and comfort were first on the list and I set out with a comfy life vest and wetsuit shorts he supplied. Barely a minute into our paddle he pointed out a young seal who was also enjoying the still water and lack of crowds. The beauty of a local and knowledgable guide meant I didn't miss the gannets which flew overhead or the penguins that darted past us. Kenny has the charm and humour of an ex Glaswegian and has lived in the area for about 30 years. We paddled to coves and rock pools that you could never have found on your own while he explained the history of the magnificent Bay of Plenty. We pulled the kayaks onto a deserted beach and enjoyed a delicious muffin and cup of tea (he even had a great selection of herbal teas). On the trip back we could see the volcanic White Island in the distance as well as the closer islands off Whakatane. Kenny took some great shots of me paddling and made sure I was back on the beach in time to drive to Auckland for my flight home. I'm already planning a return trip and will definitely be arranging another trip with KG Kayaks. It was great value as well as great fun.

Birthday surprise with friends kayaking at whale island!
Fabulous adventure to whale island - kayaking. Friendly professional skipper and guide. Super good vibe- nature gave us a glimpse of seals, dolphins rays and a variety of bird life. We had so much fun!

      A Day To Remember
What a fantastic experience today's kayaking at Whale Island was. This was my second time kayaking with Kenny; he is an excellent teacher and inspires confidence in an occasional kayaker like me. He and Barry, the catamaran skipper, are a great team and they ensured a fun packed out on the water. What a privilege to see seals, dolphins, rays, a variety of seabirds, and to kiwi footprints in the sand, as well as the natural beauty of the island itself. Dipping our toes in a hot pool on the beach, created by Barry, added to the adventure. Today was worth every dollar, and I'll definitely do the trip again soon. Thank you very much Kenny and Barry, and thanks too to Kenny's wife for the yummy lemon drizzle cake.

Undiscovered Gem in the Whakatane area
Kenny's knowledge and experience opened up that gem and our group were swept away with the beauty of it all. Now we know why seals extend their flippers out of the water LOL. My thanks to Barry - Skipper for giving a future career pathway in piloting catamarans to my 10yr old son. Highly recommend this excursion to Kayakers and Nature-lovers!!

      Great fun!
Great fun trip to Whale Island! A beautiful spot. The catamaran was cool. Not too crowded either, a good number of people for the space and the whole trip. Loved the friendly and laid back atmosphere. Kenny also took lots of awesome photos and posted them through email afterwards the very next day! A trip I would definitely do again. (-:

      Totally worth the wait :)
We tried to book this trip to Moutohora with Kenny and his team a few years ago but the weather hadn't been kind so we had to postpone. This time we booked last minute and it was perfect weather and so was the experience. The whole day was awesome. Great friendly and knowledgeble crew, a fabulous catamaran for the trip and the kayak experience by Kenny was sensational. Lots to enjoy, plenty of birdlife and sea life on the rocks. Stopped at a stunning beach and had a long swim and the KG team dug a hot spa in the sand for us which was wonderful. Kenny took three of us for a short excursion on the beach where we saw local Kiwi bird tracks in the sand from the night before. Then back in the kayaks to see seals playing in the sea near our boats and their pups on the rocks. Finally a serene sail back to shore. Thanks Kenny and the team for great day and to the people we travelled with who were awesome too, this trip was totally worth the wait, highly recommended !

      Friendly and fun!
We did a freedom kayak but we were well set up with a map and route where we would see the best wee views and potentially see some marine life! Was such a cool experience. These guys were great at helping us get into the water, and super easy to deal with. Wicked area, wicked people. Thanks so much

Couldn’t recommend this highly enough! We did a freedom kayak with our two kids (7 & 8) which was perfect - saw some great wildlife and for great views of the volcano. Kenny was exceptionally helpful...if you’re in the area give him a call and lend your support!

My friend and I had a fantastic kayak tour of Ohiwa. Kenny went at our pace and we still saw lots, he’s very knowledgeable about the history and wildlife of the area. I’m a birdwatcher and saw lots of good birds! Can’t wait to go again!

Hi Carrie - it was great to be out on the water with you both. Enjoyed the wide ranging discussion and the chance to share some of beautiful Ohiwa Harbour with you. Hope to see you back one day! Happy travels. Sorry it took so long to reply, but Trip Advisor made some log in changes that made a response difficult.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable day on the water consisting of a trip to Whale Island on a catamaran followed by several hours of kayaking. Saw a variety of wildlife including a school of dolphins, fur seals, eagle rays and a number of garnets plunging into the sea from high in the sky. Organizer Kenny did a wonderful job of organizing the day and acting as tour guide.

What a fabulous group your were ! And how lucky we had a break in the weather to get you out there. Unfortunately we didn't have the orca encounter you were all hoping for - come early next time ! However the abundant rays more than made up for it. Travel well and enjoy your journey through NZ

We had a great morning with Helen, and were lucky to get in a quick trip before the rain came. We were filming mussel restoration stations as part of a virtual field trip for schoolkids and could not have captured the footage without KG Kayaks. Thank you for being so accommodating and flexible!

Really glad we had the chance to do this. A special thanks to our guide Helen and our skipper Barry for the great time. We learned many interesting facts about the Whakatane area and the island, and enjoyed the company of fur seals and birds. It was our second day in New Zealand, and an it was an unforgettable one.

We had a fantastic Labour Weekend experience kayaking in the beautiful Ohiwa Harbour today. Helen was our guide and Kenny the organiser and facilitator: Helen is fantastic with children and new paddlers alike. She was very patient, kind and knowledgable; able to anticipate our needs and adjust plans on the water according to the conditions and the tiredness factor of youngest paddler. Morning tea was excellent! This kayaking experience is suitable for virtually everyone. Our daughter is 8 and a first-time paddler; I am an out-of-shape non-exercising working mum and first-time paddler and my oldest son is 21, pretty fit and has paddled several times: really diverse set of abilities but we all had a great day on the water. The location is stunning and the people are really fantastic. Don't hesitate - give this a go. This was a really enjoyable and memorable day. Tip: don't forget to apply sunscreen to ALL exposed areas including ankles and feet! Snug sunhat and sunglasses also highly recommended as this area is big on sunshine.

We had a fantastic day with Kenny and Barry last week on our trip out to Whale Island. The kayaking was superb with clear waters, stunning scenery, seals, seabirds and fish all part of our day, not to forget the walk, swimming in the warm waters and jumping of the boat topped of by morning tea and Barry allowing our son to sail the Catamaran. Highly recommended...memories will last a lifetime!
