Itinerary
- 71 Stonewell Rd, Nuriootpa SA 5355, AustraliaFollow the parking signs.
- 1After meeting at Ballooning Reception Centre we head out on the 4x4's and check the winds, choose a launchsite, then inflate the giant colourful balloon. Then with a final blast of heat from the burner, we rise up above the landscape. The balloon goes with the wind so we land somewhere down wind of where we took off from. The flight lasts for approximately one hour so there's plenty of time to take in the scenery and take a few selfies in the balloon basket up there. On landing the balloon retrieve crew arrive and the balloon is all packed away onto the trailer. The morning ends with a delicious Barossa breakfast back at the reception centre. It is for our own private use with a view over Penfolds Stonewell vineyards. Relax and chat with your fellow passengers and pilot about the mornings events, whilst sipping sparkling wine and indulging in the best Barossa produce.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Arnaud M0 contributionsMust do if you’re in the areaJustin is very nice, funny and professional Amazing experience to be able to fly above the Murray river and the bush. You don’t fly very high and it is so peaceful up there that people with fear of heights can be comfortable. Would recommend to take an extra day because it is likely that the weather or wind does not permit you to fly so you would need to give it another try.Written 19 June 2024
- Kerry M0 contributionsWorth waiting for!We were given this balloon flight as a combined birthday and Christmas present back in nov 2022. We were scheduled and cancelled by unfavourable weather 4 times. Safety first ! The weather was in our favour last Friday 1.3.24. We arrived at 5.00am in the dark and were given a thorough explanation of what was about to happen. We tried 2 different sites in the Barossa but the wind was not right so we were driven very comfortably by Peter to Blanchetown (45 mins) where the decision to proceed was thankfully made. What a fabulous flight . We flew along the river for around 14 km and enjoyed spectacular views. The ground crew kept us in their sights and took some amazing photos. We felt completely safe the entire time and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Justin and his team. Thank you so much for our Ballooning Adventure.Written 2 March 2024
- 503CatherineW0 contributionsGreat ExperienceWhat a way to spend my birthday! Justin and his crew were sensational; really professional and super-efficient. I particularly liked Justin's dry sense of humour. It felt so serene floating along in the balloon and the views were amazing. Quite surreal. I'd highly recommend this wonderful experience.Written 29 December 2023

It had always been on her bucket list and wow it didn't disappoint. What an amazing experience for her and our whole family. So quiet and tranquil with amazing views of the Murray River. This was a nice experience once we actually went on the flight, however I would strongly recommend against purchasing a voucher because it seems these are non-refundable, even when an individual has made multiple attempts to redeem the voucher. In some circumstances, redeeming a ballooning voucher can take an exceptional level of commitment.
In my case, the weather resulted in the cancellation of the first four attempts I made. Each time I went to re-book, I found that the only suitable vacancies (for a group of 3) had to be booked several weeks in advance, and booking on a weekend or holiday was even more difficult. You are only informed of cancellation due to weather the afternoon prior to the flight, or in some cases on the morning of the flight itself. So planning the balloon flight around conventional school / work commitments, the available dates, and the weather cancellations was for me very frustrating and stressful. The fifth attempt finally worked; this was almost two years after the purchase of the voucher. I was definitely kicking myself for purchasing the voucher (non-refundable) rather than just making direct bookings which I think are fully refundable if the flight is cancelled due to weather.
Regarding the flight itself, I found the experience itself to be pleasant enough. The first ever hot air balloon flight occurred in 1783, making it the earliest form of sustained, manned flight. Getting up very early, seeing the process of setting up the balloon, and having the floating sensation whilst feeling the effect of the gentle air currents at different heights was for me a fascinating experience.

Our trip was an unforgettable 70th birthday present. We set off on a crisp early morning in the dark. The images of the burner heating the air in the balloon was spectacular. Justin, Tony and John calmly and efficiently set it all up and loaded us in. Justin's experience saw a gentle take off as the sun rose. The quiet and peace was invasive, until the burners lit again. Everyone on board could not stop smiling, the views were amazing, the wildlife you would not normally see and the open vats of grapes bubbling away. We landed upright with a few little bumps over the rows of stubble in a field, to be collected by the team. After packing up, breakfast was welcome and delicious. An experience to be recommended for all ages. Loved it!

Today was such a lovely day brought together by the team at Balloon Adventures Barossa Valley, after we met for a briefing in the morning we was on the road looking for our launch site the team has a very comfortable mode of transport with a forward facing seated Toyota bus. After our first stop we couldn’t launch there so off to our next spot We was able to launch and fly straight down the river Murray which was our second option, varying in heights made it feel exciting for all, along the journey Justin the pilot answered many questions we all had, after landing it was good to see the other guests chip in to help pack up and get back on the road.
When arriving back at the Facility where we would have our home cooked breakfast which was amazing the Smokey bacon was so tasty. Many options on what to drink it was lovely, also sitting down and seeing the photos which were taken throughout the journey made it ever more special. Something which really brought the crew together after breakfast and what I thought was lovely was Justin, Dave and Tony brought out a cake with a candle to celebrate all the people who had been given the experience as a birthday present and we sung happy birthday which was really nice of them to do that.
Overall it was a very good experience and I would recommend anyone looking to do hot air ballooning to visit the team at Balloon Adventures Barossa Valley to enjoy there adventure and services they provide :)

We had an awesome flight last Friday morning over the Murray with Justin and his team. The experience was really well organised, lots of fun, and you really felt like you were in safe hands. The breakfast was beautiful, and even a homemade cake was provided for everyone to share for one of the guests who were celebrating a birthday. This is a really lovely family run local business which goes that extra mile to provide a really unforgettable experience to its guests. I would love to do this again and thoroughly recommend this company.

A gift voucher for our 70th Birthdays resulted in a truly wonderful experience - hot air ballooning at sunrise over the Barossa Valley. Barossa Balloon Adventures were professional, friendly, safe, entertaining, humorous and informative from go to whoa. Soaring over the Valley at sunrise, seeing the roos, cattle and sheep from above, following the hills and vales then soaring to a new height before a soft landing made the whole experience one to remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much to the entire crew.

I had a fantastic time with the Barossa H.A.B gang. After the first booking was cancelled in October we managed to get up in the air early December. It was fantastic to float above the river at Nurioopta & see the beautiful scenery. Would do it again tomorrow. The fantastic breakfast. after just topped off a great morning. Well done to the whole gang :)

Early morning start. We enjoyed helping get the balloon filled with air to get airborne.
Justin, the pilot/owner was friendly and very competent and the flight was mainly fairly low level allowing good viewing of the grapevines and the kangaroos amongst them. A few bumps on landing then we all assisted packing the balloon away then back for the lovely breakfast.
Well worth doing.

A totally professional crew lead by Justin. We were made to feel very welcome and were encouraged to take part in the preparations. We had perfect conditions, in fact too perfect as it took 3 sites to get the ultimate takeoff position. Is was certainly worth the wait. We flew over the River Murray in Blanchetown flying up high and down low over the river with the ground crew following along and taking photos from the ground which you can buy on a USB to take home. The crew were in constant contact to ensure safety at all times. After we landed we were all ready for our breakfast back at the base in Nuriootpa which didn’t disappoint. I can highly recommend it even if you don’t like heights, absolutely fantastic and a big tick off my bucket list.

What an amazing experience with Justin and crew. The preparation for the flight was fascinating to observe/be a part of, the flight itself was wonderful and the involvement in pacing up the balloon was also interesting. The breakfast provided was plentiful and Justin and crew worked together with obvious experience and precision and also provided some great humour. We missed out on a spectacular sunrise as it was overcast but that did not detract from the wonderful experience

It was an amazing, unforgettable experience! Conditions were too windy to fly around the Barossa, so we had to launch near Blanchetown and fly along the river. Just stunning at sunrise with perfectly still, flat water and flocks of birds beginning their day. We got so low to the water we could see the refection of the balloon in the surface! Justin is a very experienced and knowledgeable pilot who was happy to answer any questions. The breakfast after was delicious, too! Highly recommend!!
