Luxurious guided coastal walk and lodges
This was a 3 day walk staying in the luxury lodges. They certainly were luxury lodges and the food was scrumptious. Breakfast (cooked was an option), packed lunch and 3 course dinner 🍽 😋 Wilsons we're very accommodating to my friend, who just wanted to relax in the lodges and swim in the sea. They were happy to transport her lodge to lodge whilst I walked with the guide. Everyone on the trip could decide if they wanted to walk the whole day or boat some of it on the 2nd day, as it was the longest day for walking. Some people were staying for the 5 day stay. It's such a good company offering so many options (kayaking included). The guides Jack and Tash were patient, caring, accommodating and informative. They worked really hard, helping serve dinner etc at the lodges too. Transport provided from and to Nelson as well. A really amazing and enjoyable trip. Thank you Wilsons.

      Meadow Bank Lodge - Awaroa
Five star rated staff at Meadow bank lodge, thank you so much Greg, Kathy, Christian, Kat and Geoff for making us so welcome, the exceptional service and food. 😍 Not so good was the organisation/communication to get us there and home again. So very confusing 🤨 Weather was awesome 😁 M&K

3 day guided walk - Fantastic experience
Just finished the 3 day guided walk and absolutely loved every minute. Our guide Sarah was fantastic, she was just the right amount of attentive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We hadn’t necessarily intended to stick with the guided group every day but ended up doing that the whole trip as it was so enjoyable. The operation is very slick with your bags (and amazing meals and accommodation!) waiting for you at each stop. Highly recommend.

      So good!
Absolutely fantastic! Very organised, professional, helpful and friendly team at Wilson’s. We did the three day self guided southbound walk of the Abel Tasman with Wilson’s after a recommendation from friends. Couldn’t fault it, the accommodation was great, clean, tidy and comfortable and so much history with Meadowbank Lodge. The food was delicious and heaps of it. We had amazing weather and the scenery is off the charts beautiful. Highly recommend. Would have turned around and done it all again if that had been an option!

      Abel Tasman Hike
3 Day Trek with Lodge Accommodation and Guide with c 20 travellers Abel Tasman is a spectacular place and well worth visiting: First day c 8k afternoon moderate difficulty hike , after lovely 90 minute boat trip. This included a great swim. Meal and stay at Meadowbank Lodge was delightful. Second day was tougher at c 20k but well staggered. Night at Torrent Bay Lodge had less “wow” factor and catering was average- a slice of cucumber as a starter was rather odd. Swim was excellent. Day 3 c14k hike to Marahau was moderate difficulty with a wonderful crossing of the estuary at the start. Lovely staff overall and big shout out to Hazel and Lucas. Highly recommended.

      Abel Tasman guided walk
Wilson’s Abel Tasman 3 day/2 night hiking experience surpassed expectations. Outstanding guides Phillip and Neve were always available and shared their knowledge of the area in an understated casual way that was never intrusive. They both worked tirelessly on the walk and also in the lodges. The walks were well paced and options were available for anyone wanting a shorter/rest day. We made good use of poles on the steep ups and downs which were luckily dry and short. The whole group was large at 23 people but there were only 13 on the guided walk. The others were kayakers and self guided walkers. We all came together at the end of the day over drinks and dinner. The lodges were exclusively for Wilson guests and very comfortable in stunning locations. I can highly recommend Wilson’s as a well organised family run company who want to share this beautiful area in a sensitive sustainable way.

      A gorgeous kayaking adventure
Great kayak trip with guide Ollie. He was enthusiastic, and knowledgeable and made the experience memorable. We learned so much about the area and its history, wildlife, flora and fauna. We paddled into Frenchman’s Bay and into the Falls River on our full day trip. I loved every moment. Thank you Ollie

Best ever 3 day tour in Abel Tasman National Park
We booked a 3 day tour. A mixture of walking and kayaking with 2 nights in their lodges. It was probably the best 3 days of our trip. We were in a group of 15. Some were self guiding. Wilsons use their water taxis to take you from Kaiteriteri beach to a beach further north where you go ashore and hike roughly 7k to the first lodge, Meadowbank. There is a water crossing, so take fixed water shoes….it wasn’t deep. Meadowbank is a family house. Very well maintained and the food was great. Good bar and great breakfast. Tea and coffee are always available Picnics are provided and are good. The next day is a mixture of walking and kayaking ( if you chose to kayak) The walking is very doable, but there are some steeper sections so wear good shoes. The scenery is stunning…..many many photography opportunities. The last day is again either walking or kayaking. If you walk the whole way it is around 45k

Beautiful, relaxing and hassle-free Abel Tasman walking trip
We were on the 3 day self guided walking tour. Our guide Sarah Harvey was amazing. She dealt with every situation calmly and resolved issues without it being an issue! The lodges are either full of history or beautiful but all locations are just perfect. Greg at Meadowbank made us feel at home instantly and the food throughout was delicious. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

      Beautiful, well led trip
We did the Beaches, Bays & Seals kayak trip. It was fantastic. We were lucky with the weather, a warm sunny day. JC was our guide, she was brilliant, accompanied us on the ferry trip to the beach where the kayaks were, took us through the safety briefing then led the group on the trip. She was informative about what we were seeing and took us into lagoons, along the coast and islands where we saw seal. We even managed to raft up and sail for a while! A truly memorable day.

Also to Krystal who took us kayaking again her passion to keep us on track. The lodges were amazing, beds were really comfortable and the meals great. Perfect mix of exploration and rest along a stunning coast
We did the five day walk and kayak trip and the whole thing was a fantastic experience, we were very well looked after by really friendly and knowledgeable guides (thanks again Sarah and Krystal!) and had as much independence as we wanted at the same time. The two lodges are very comfortable places to stay, in locations that reward exploration and complement each other nicely. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend the Wilsons Vista boat tour! Not only were they on time, but it was all very clean, and the team just great! Super nice and very helpful. One of the staff on the ship had memorized all the passengers’ stopping requests, and is on the way to each one to give tips for hiking or highlights of the respective stop! The captain also told a lot about the sights and the flora and fauna during the trip. And the views of the Tasman NP are simply gigantic.
    Next time definitely with Wilsons!!

3 day self guided walk. We were fortunate to have stunning weather and the Abel
tasman is definitely one of nzs jewels.

We especially liked torrent bay lodge dining, lounge and outdoor area. its pure beachfront.
We had a few things that could be improved. The beer and scallop pie were lukewarm. I like my beer cold and pie heated. Actually, i like hot meals hot!

It seems that everyone is paying different prices for the trip. We paid exactly the same price as guided 3 day - shoulder season $1350. But some on our trip got deals through various sources including one on grab one for a little over $850 each. Others got deals $1050 each. Ironically the best rooms at the front of torrent bay lodge went to those who got the cheapest deals. We unfortunately got a bedroom above the kitchen. And were woken at 5.30 with staff moving around and then full on prep from around 6am. Definitely request a room not near or above kitchen when you book.
The other thing which was disappointing is that there was no afternoon tea when you arrived at the lodge. So after 18km walk people arrived mid afternoon and were drinking alcohol with no food. A scone or muffin or cheeseboard not even peanuts or crisps to purchase would be great. We had nearly eaten our arms off by 5,30pm each day when nibbles were served.
one of the other people in our group advised they removed the electric blanket from their bed - a really good move and i wish i had done this. the electric blanket was too small for the bed so the hard plastic cord attachment was very uncomfortable.

The good aspects is that all the staff were fantastic and helpful. The lodges are in absolutely stunning locations. Torrent bay lodge has comfortable outdoor dining and lounge area and wrap around windows in the lounge area. It was purebeach front. Sunrise and sunset were worth waiting for. The two front beach upstairs rooms looked to be the best choice of rooms.

The flexibility of travelling is great - you can get wilsons water shuttle arranged if you arent able to walk any of the sections. This makes the experience achieveable for all.

It’s a great comfortable way to see the park with lots of options available as well. But while some little things could be improved, its worth doing.

Thank you for joining us. We share your delight in Torrent Bay Lodge. Our other lodge, Meadowbank Homestead at Awaroa, competes in popularity with its grander setting and heritage. Having operated guided trips for almost 40 years, we are still developing our self-guided trips. No radio contact with the lodges means that guest arrival times can vary considerably. Groups traditionally arrived around 4pm but self-guided walkers not willing to take the time and absorb the delights of our golden beaches and diverse forest can arrive as early at 1pm. Visitors used to modern comforts often don’t understand what compromise is required to live off the grid. In our pursuit of carbon neutrality and sustainability, we reduce all non essential power use. Our bar fridges are not run through the day, programmed to turn on at 3 pm. We plan to install more photovoltaic generation, and more energy-efficient fridges to allow us to chill drinks earlier in the day. Both lodges have self service areas for hot drinks, juice, water and cookies to sustain walkers through to pre-dinner drinks and nibbles. Our hosts will make this clearer when early guests arrive. We cannot explain the cold pie. They are heated just prior to serving. Our chef could have fixed the problem if you had commented at the time. This is the first negative feedback we have received about heat pads on the beds. Electric blankets require a specialised style to operate off-grid, with a removable power cord to allow for off-site washing. The ‘lump’ you refer to is a sophisticated controller that measures and regulates the bed temperature so it doesn’t use power continuously. To ensure further comfort, hygiene and safety this is nestled under a mattress topper pad and sheet. Variable pricing is a common feature of travel and accommodation. To use resources most efficiently and assist with planning staffing levels we offer Early Bird deals. We also had some deals running to inspire commitment to a trip during the uncertain time of the Covid lockdown. Room allocation is done on the basis of those booking first having first choice as we work through best available room configuration Your feedback is valuable to us, and our teams are working on the points you mention.

It was a wonderful experience. Great guides Jack and Phil who were very informative and fun. The lodges, food and wine was exceptional and the accomodation amazing. A few things to take note of to potentially make your experience better
1/ We had attrocious bad weather on our first day so the boat could not drop off our night bag at the lodge which would have been ok as they warned us to take a change of clothing. However, the inner waterproof bags of our day packs they gave us to keep our contents dry did the reverse. There are small holes punched in them (apparently for health and safety) that draw in water that leaks through into your clothing. Many of us arrived at the lodge with wet gear inside. The drying rooms do not have the capacity to dry much so please take your own inner plastic bag to protect your clothing and overnight things. 2/ We did the guided walk and the guides were great However, with only one guide one day, we decided we wanted to go a quicker pace than the others so decided to self guide. I would suggest that anyone doing the guided walk also joins the unguided briefing as there are tips on shortcuts and finding lodges etc that we found very tricky doing it ourselves.... A great trip anyway.

Thank you for the great feedback and review. Torrential rain is rare in the Tasman region, but we are now aware of the problem created by the small holes in our plastic bag liners. By law, our suppliers are not permitted to sell large plastic bags without holes to minimise the chance of children suffocating themselves. The back packs we have available to borrow have pack covers that are often forgotten because we rarely experience such heavy rain. It is good advice to bring your own plastic bags if you are expecting very wet weather.

Four months in advance, our travel agent had booked an Abel Tasman Vista (a large catamaran with bar, ample enclosed and top deck open seating, toilets, etc.) cruise described as 5.75 hours of "a cruise in style and comfort along the spectacular granite coast." It was to include a Kiwi BBQ lunch and a "skipper provid(ing) interpretative commentary." When we arrive an hour in advance of our schedule 10:30 am cruise, we were informed that because they were "a bit slow" our cruise had been changed to 3 hours of Taxi rides (jammed in with hikers, campers, and kayakers), a 2 hour solitary lunch, and a .75 hour cruise on the Vista catamaran. Although we confirmed our Vista cruise a day in advance, neither we nor our travel agents had been informed of the significant changes. We had been offered no alternatives or the option of canceling the "Taxi" cruise. Amazingly, Abel Tasman had a 9:15 am Vista Cruise available, that had we been told in advance, we could of joined. The Taxi was cramped, open, cold, and traveled fast. Not the comfort and relaxed pace we expected on the catamaran. We had to wear life jackets the entire three-hour ride going from drop off stop and pick up stop to accommodate the eight other hikers, campers, and kayakers on the small Taxi. To top it all off, after lunch, we had to wade through freezing water along with six kayakers (this is after the original eight had been dropped off) to climb onto a flat boat and ride to the Vista Cruise catamaran for the 45 minute cruise back to port. We no longer had to wear life vests, it was not cramped at all, and had full interpretive commentary. Finally, a comfortable low paced cruise. We were given an adjustment in what we paid, but our agent hasn't disclosed it. There were other cruises/catamaran companies available and we suggest you look into those as we would not recommend Wilsons Abel Tasman. In our opinion, they are unreliable and frankly, out of the ordinary when it comes to the hospitality industry in New Zealand.

Last-minute operational changes are sometimes unavoidable with our range of staff and services, and we do our best to provide alternatives. We understand that your amended trip on the day wasn’t what you expected. While most people would consider the change as an upgrade to a more intimate experience, we understand for you that it wasn’t and we’re very sorry that you left with that feeling. The smaller vessel and tides allowed you to get up close to many highlights such as Falls River and Shag Harbour where baby seals played around the boat, with a more personal skipper commentary, similar to a private charter. Your lunch at Torrent Bay Lodge is usually only available for groups of 10 or more. We have taken your feed back on board.

My family of 7 went on the 4:30 ‘Happy Hour’ vista cruise and it was an hour and a half of pure hell. On a perfectly sunny and still day, the cruise was so fast and choppy that we could not see a single of the ‘spectacular beaches and islands’ that were advertised. The top of the boat was out of the question because of the wind and sea spray, and the bottom of the boat was so choppy, it felt like we were on Tasman’s sailboat back in 1642. We made a few ‘stops’ along the way, but we only made the stops to pick up and drop off other people, because this ‘cruise’ was a glorified water taxi. Oh and the ‘cafe/bar’ that this cruise touts was a 1 meter by 1 meter space with a microwave to heat up the frozen garbage they have. To make matters worse, the credit card machine didn’t work so you couldn’t buy their stupid food/drinks anyway. The boat was also disgusting and dirty. Do NOT waste your time

Disappointed with the service. As the website says during winter they don’t run the cruise option. Honestly I was expecting a better service for the price I paid. The taxi should cost much less than the cruise as the service isn’t the same at all. It doesn’t say anywhere they will spot everywhere picking up and dropping off people, on top of that it isn’t clear anywhere during the booking that you could also share the trip with pets. Nothing wrong but I should be able to chose if I am paying for the service.
Our activity was first changed to a earlier start and we needed to change the trip back, then the weather was really bad, we called earlier to check if it would go through and they said yes, then 5 min before arriving (we were an hour driving) they called to say they would prefer to cancel.
Of course I wouldn’t recommend to do this activity in winter if you want a tourist visit to Abel Tasman.

Thank you for travelling with us. Bad weather is invariably the trigger for negative reviews. We understand your disappointment but ask that you be more considered in your reviews during this Covid era. Our staff’s employment is at stake. Visitor numbers have been decimated, and fuel prices have gone through the roof but we have held our fare prices to provide low season options to travel into the national park. Our website did supply you with the details of the smaller vessel used during our low season. Fast moving weather fronts can result in sudden changes to our services. Sometimes we do suggest cancellation, even at the last minute, if we think it’s not going to be enjoyable. You chose not to take up our suggestion. We provide a service for communities who live on private land within the park boundaries. Owners travel with their pets to ensure they are well-behaved. We will make it clearer in our descriptions that our boat cruises include regular stops at popular beaches to drop off and pick up people who have booked to walk sections of the track.

This is the best way to see the Abel Tasman. I highly recommend the 5-day option to allow you to explore this amazing area rather than just walking from point to point. Wilsons provides all the comfort and safety you need with amazing guides, brilliant itineraries, accommodation, menus, drying rooms (!!), en suites, transport, options, and ambience.
My only criticism is there was too much food.
This should be on your bucket list.

We did the 5 day guided walk/kayak trip with several families (10 adults & 13 children aged 9-16yrs) and had the entire trip booked as our own private group.
I cannot recommend Wilson’s Abel Tasman highly enough. The whole experience was outstanding from start to finish. The communication with the reservations staff was very professional, friendly and patient when dealing with a group our size. They were very helpful and made sure we had all the information we needed, so the entire trip ran extremely smoothly, it was exceptionally well organised, we didn’t have to worry about a thing.
The lodge at both Awaroa and Torrent Bay was very comfortable and relaxing and the food at both was delicious with a variety of choices. The staff were also very accomodating when we wanted to change a few options to cater more for the children.
Our guides Miles, Karina and AJ were fantastic!
Very knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging and engaging. The kids loved the beach games that were arranged on our day off in Torrent Bay and the beach/water balls kept the kids occupied and entertained for hours. The Mums also enjoyed the yoga session which Karina put on for us too, very relaxing. We appreciated all the options our guides gave us, really made the trip so memorable.
As for the scenery of the Abel Tasman, it is absolutely stunning!! An incredible part of NZ and we feel very lucky to have experienced amazing weather during our trip, so we were able to enjoy the gorgeous beaches, sunsets and sea kayaking.
Thank you Wilson’s Crew for an unforgettable experience!

We had an amazing day with Wilsons in the Abel Tasman! I love this part of the country and wanted to show my parents from the UK this amazing place I called home.
We opted for the cruise and self guided hike from the quarry to Medlands beach. I called previously to ask about the difficulty of the hike for my parents. They were very reassuring and we’re so kind on the phone. They even told me to book online through their website rather than on the phone to save $5 per person which was great of them to do so!
We had the small boat as it was winter and very quiet which was ideal. We were shown some really neat places and given lots of information before being dropped off. We were given plenty of time to do the walk. We had lunch first at the beach (we were dropped off just after the quarry which made the walk 5 minutes longer but the beach was idyllic for lunch and was beautiful) and then made our way slowly. We had time to stop and look at the fauna and listen out for native birds.
We were picked up punctually at Medlands Beach. We were there just on time as we walked slowly and had a long lunch break, so it was nice to not have to wait around. If you are a faster walker then Bark Bay is a great place to sit and wait before walking over to Medlands.
The boat journey back was great and we were dropped off at little Kaiteri due to the tides.
Thank you for a great day out

In early December our family did the 3 day self guided Abel Tasman trek with Wilsons tour company. All the staff from the office, to the bus driver to the young guides were excellent to deal with and the tour guides/come hosts at the lodges were a great group of young people that made us feel welcome, well cared for and well advised. The rooms were comfortable and the meals exceeded our expectations. The drying room was on for about 3 - 4 hours each evening, not quite long enough to completely dry shoes etc but enough to feel comfortable the next day. The picnic lunches were more than adequate with great food options: eg: filled roll, hard boiled egg, chocolate bar, chippes, apple and healthy bar.
The scenery was stunning and despite a wet start on the first day ( just made it more intrepid), a challenging 2nd day with some steep up and down climbs, there was always the option to skip a leg and take the boat. A great walk that anyone with moderate fitness could do; our family was made up of a 9, 16, 40, 44, 64 and 66 yr old. I can highly recommend the Wilson tour company to trek the Abel Tasman track with.
