Specialists in this area so you know you are in good hands.
The Abel Tasman has always been on the to do list. In 2023 we decided to make it happen. There was a core group of 12. Then another 6 were added. We decided to go with Wilson’s as I have heard good things over the years. There were a few options to choose from and we had lots of questions to work through. The Wilson’s team were helpful and patient. We decided to go with the 3 day kayak and walk option. This meant this it was going to be guided. We didn’t necessarily feel that we needed guiding during the walk part - however we went with the flow. Our two guides Ollie and Jack were chilled, experienced and very knowledgeable. They showed us flora and fauna we would never have seen on our own. We also asked them to take us to a spot called Cleopatras water hole. And they made it happen (luckily the tides were in our favour). Our team loved the trip. Thanks Ollie, Jack and Rod.

3 Day guided hike and kayak was amazing!
Our experience was top notch in every respect. We did a three day trip. Wilson's picked us up at hour hotel in Nelson, put us on one of their boats, which dropped us off at the start of the first day's hike. We kayaked the next two days. The two lodges we stayed at were beyond fabulous, from the food to the proprietors. The two guides on our trip were excellent. Just a spectacular 3 days in Abel Tasman.

      Self-guided hike
This was a fabulous experience all round. The team were very helpful with any questions prior to the trip. They provided all the assistance we requested for the self-guide hike. The meals were lovely and the hosts were really helpful

Outstanding in every way. Amazing experience.
We did the 5 day 4 night experience. The guides were fantastic (Sarah and Crystal). The track, beaches and views were incredible. The lodges were awesome. The food was so good. Overall the trip exceeded our already high expectations. I highly recommend Wilsons - they are experts at what they do.

A truely wonderful experience superbly organised by Wilsons.
We spent an amazing few days coastal rowing, kayaking and hiking in the Abel Tasman National Park all organised by Wilsons. . A big 'shout out' to Jack who was our guide/organiser. Couldn't have asked for a nicer, more helpful and fun guide. He made everything work seamlessly and when the weather demanded it , was able to flex and come up with alternative activities to make sure we had fun. 1 member of our group got sick on the 2nd day and the efficiency with which Jack & Wilsons organised her 'evacuation' from a remote beach was world class. They are a most impressive organisation and the 2 lodges we stayed in were lovely, comfortable and clean with great food. I was just sorry when our 5 day trip came to an end - could have gone for a few days longer as it was all so wonderful. Highly recommend this location and this company.

Well organised and a great day out
We chose the Cruise/Walk tour with Wilson’s. With easy booking on line the day before, we turned up next day to a lovely girl behind the counter explaining exactly where to go and what to do. The boat staff were all friendly. The cruise was informative and enjoyable. We cruised to the top of the National Park and hopped off half way back at a beach for a walk and a swim and fill in 3 hours. Went fast. The lunch we chose, that they organised, was amazing. The walk was perfect for us and the weather was spectacular. First time on our 2 week holiday I had been in shorts and a t-shirt.

      Exceptional and fun guided walk
Sarah was a wonderful guide and educator for our group walking from Tonga Quarry to Medlands Beach. Her excitement about all the wildlife and flora we saw was infectious and she described everything with clarity and good cheer. One of the best guides we've had in New Zealand. Thank you!

      Great day out
We did the half-day cruise from Kaiteriteri along the coast and back again, without going ashore. The cruise talks you past all the islands, inlets and beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park, with stops at many beaches to let walkers on or off. Plenty of seals were sighted. Commentary was informative without being intrusive. We'd certainly go ashore and do a bushwalk if we return, but for a first-time visit to the park, it's a great introduction.

      Awesome Kaiteri to Totaranui trip
We had an amazing day in perfect weather on very clean well run boats Voyager and Vista. Wilsons staff are awesome. Went right to Totaranui and back to Kaiteri with a two hour stop off for swimming and snorkeling in beautiful clean water.

Amazing guided walk through a beautiful National Park
The two of us had a lovely 2.5 days walking through the Abel Tasman Park on the Coastal track. Day 1. Drove to Motueka to the Wilson’s office where we picked up the bags to use for the overnight stays and were briefed by Phil and Jade, our guides. Left the car secure at Riwaya and went by coach transfer to Kaiteriteri Caught one of the Wilson’s boats up the coast to the start. Stopped to view Split Apple Rock and the seal island and to drop others off. Dropped on to the beach. (No wet feet!) and had a 2 hour 7.5k walk to Awaroa including a walk at low tide across the Estuary. Stayed in Meadowbank Eri lodge. , a replica of the original farmhouse. Dinner with our fellow walkers was good and wine and beer is available to buy. Day 2. Just over 20km in three sections with food, water and swim stops. Quite a lot of ups and downs but fine if you are reasonably walking fit and spectacular views and beaches. Overnight at Torrent Bay. Day 3 Short boat trip around the headland (due to tides) and 13k walk before being picked up at marahau at 15.00 to go and get our car. Again stops for drink breaks food and swims for those that wanted. The trip seems quite expensive for two nights but you get a great boat trip with commentary on the sights and history, 2 nights accommodation, food and two knowledgable guides who talk you through the flora and fauna. We had a lovely group and met some lovely people from NZ, Australia, US and UK. Thanks to Phil and Jade, the staff at both lodges and the back office team who organised all. Wilsons is a small family company with great client service.

      Good trip
The Abel Tasman park is amazing. I was pleased to have chosen a kayak & hike as I got the best of both worlds. I booked the 3 day, 2 night however I thought it was actually 3 nights & whilst the trip was great, I think it is a little overpriced at $NZD 1900, £950 for 2 nights. The lodges were ok but in fact, the 2nd lodge whilst having an amazing outlook had a lot of noise in the rooms due to wood movement & therefore I didn't get much sleep.

      Well organised and friendly staff
The information I got from leaflets and on the phone was great. The boats are easy to access and the operation was smooth and well organised. Lovely to get a beer on board on the way back! I booked the 3 day pass which meant I attended the ticket office in Kaiteriteri each day, Tui at the office was an absolute delight, friendly, helpful and even remembered my name! Thanks Tui 😊

      January paradise
We did the three day full walk starting in the north at Wainui The walk was amazing helped by great sunshine. We did self guided staying in two lodges owned and run by Wilson’s Chefs Amanda and David were so kind and helpful and all our meals and pic nics were delicious. There was a guided party on the same trip and their guide Fin was amazing and very knowledgeable on local flora and fauna. Can’t recommend this company and staff am enough. Everyone very efficient but done in a friendly manner

We did the 5 day guided walk/kayak trip with several families (10 adults & 13 children aged 9-16yrs) and had the entire trip booked as our own private group.
I cannot recommend Wilson’s Abel Tasman highly enough. The whole experience was outstanding from start to finish. The communication with the reservations staff was very professional, friendly and patient when dealing with a group our size. They were very helpful and made sure we had all the information we needed, so the entire trip ran extremely smoothly, it was exceptionally well organised, we didn’t have to worry about a thing.
The lodge at both Awaroa and Torrent Bay was very comfortable and relaxing and the food at both was delicious with a variety of choices. The staff were also very accomodating when we wanted to change a few options to cater more for the children.
Our guides Miles, Karina and AJ were fantastic!
Very knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging and engaging. The kids loved the beach games that were arranged on our day off in Torrent Bay and the beach/water balls kept the kids occupied and entertained for hours. The Mums also enjoyed the yoga session which Karina put on for us too, very relaxing. We appreciated all the options our guides gave us, really made the trip so memorable.
As for the scenery of the Abel Tasman, it is absolutely stunning!! An incredible part of NZ and we feel very lucky to have experienced amazing weather during our trip, so we were able to enjoy the gorgeous beaches, sunsets and sea kayaking.
Thank you Wilson’s Crew for an unforgettable experience!

My stepdaughter Kathryn and myself were privileged to be the only guests going on this last/late booking of the day - going. They picked up many guests on the return. Daniel and Katy took excellent care of us - serving us little loafs of banana bread and Katy even shared her personal 'Boston Bun.' Both were knowledgeable about the area and were very personable. Highly recommend the trip particularly if you get Daniel and Katy!

We love visiting this area so always book an activity when we do. This time we hit the National Park with a Wilson’s cruise and walk combo. Our initial (very slight) disappointment was that we were put on a small boat due to being in the low season. However that turned out to be a real highlight because it felt way more personal being able to chat with our excellent driver/tour guide. He had a wealth of interesting facts and history dashed with a bit of humour.
The weather was wonderful which helped make this day so successful but it was down to our driver and the well organised company. Congrats on taking our personal safety so seriously in these times too (social distancing sanitizer and even life jackets!!)

After our previous trips to North and South island with motorhomes, we have decided to take rent a car on this occasion and travel through West Coast of New Zealand again. This destination is considered to be one of the most spectacular places in the country if not in world. No wander why we love it. And on this occasion we wanted to see and spend some time in Abel Tasman national park.

After reading reviews my hubby and I have decided to take 3 days hiking with Wilson's Abel Tasman All our questions have been properly and professionally answered on time.

Our tour started here at Wilson's office in Moteuka. As we were self driving, we have parked our car and jumped into bus and joined groug. Bus took us to the boat, the sea ride was pleasent.

We were dropped at a beach. We walked about 7 km to the first lodge the.Meadowbank Homestead As this is remote area, room was good and has served purpose. Food prepared was nice. Our guides were very friendly and helpful. They also were selling and serving our drinks among helping in kitchen.

Second day after breakfast we walked about 20km. Weather was great. As we had mixed group of diifferent ages, some have been walking very slowly , so we decided to go in our pace. Our accommodation on the second  at the Torrent Bay Lodge have been upgraded over the years  day was better then first night.

We did continue to have a great walkes and did about 18km.

    My summary :

    1.The experience was wonderful

    2. Weather was beutiful

    3. Our guides were friendly, polate and helped with food and purchase of drinks in lodges

    4. In our group there was a variety of ages and diifferent backgrounds among the walkers. This contributed to interesting conversations during the walks and around the dinner table. Perhaps it would be better if group has been split between slawer and faster walkers

    5. Food provided was ok

    6. For self driving people Wilson's have orginised safe parking during our walks

    7. These 3 days have been 2 days and about 2 hours in a fact, therefore I believe this tour was overpriced

    8. All drinks are paid on spot and time when we ordered. They have not been included in price.

    9. Just be aware of sand flies, there are everywhere, so don't forget to take your Deet wherever you go.

    10. I can't discribe the kindness of the New Zealander which I admire as nation and can't wait to be back

Thank you for your comprehensive review. Regarding your point 7, on the first day, most of your group met us at 10 am for their coach transfer from Nelson. A briefing at our base at 11 am ensured everyone was prepared with luggage storage, transfers and safe car parking arranged. After coach transfer to Kaiteriteri you had a 2 hour Vista Cruise from Kaiteriteri to Totaranui and then a 2 ½ hours walk from Totaranui to Meadowbank Homestead at Awaroa. The tidal crossing at Awaroa was planned by your guides so that you could either walk across at low tide, or catch our barge to cross the estuary at high tide. The longer evenings of summer allow time for a swim or exploring the bay before your hosts serve your evening meal. We’re glad you enjoyed the variety of your fellow travellers. Groups often split into faster and slower walkers so, as you discovered, you were able to walk at the pace you wanted. We look forward to welcoming you back to New Zealand.

We are just off the three day Abel Tasman walk which was organised by Wilsons in Motueka. If you want to walk the day then arrive at the homestead to wine and nibbles followed by a great dinner and a comfortable bed in a purpose built lodge this is the deal for you. If you want to get up, have a terrific breakfast then set out on one of the great NZ walks without having to worry about logistics, cooking or cleaning, this is the deal for you. We had a stunning walk partially due to sensational weather and amazing scenery but also due to the outstanding Wilson's crew. With Oliver and Paddy out front and Craig, Robbie and Shannon weaving their magic in the lodges this was seamless. All you have to do is walk and enjoy it. Simply the best.

What a fantastic day out! We took the boat from Kaiteriteri to Medlands Beach and then walked to Anchorage where the boat picked us up for the return journey. An absolutely stunning walk with amazing views. Walk was easily achievable in the allocated time with two reluctant 11 and 9 year old walkers!! They were still smiling at the end and enjoyed a dip in the sea before the boat arrived! An incredible experience that I would highly recommend.

Disappointed with the service. As the website says during winter they don’t run the cruise option. Honestly I was expecting a better service for the price I paid. The taxi should cost much less than the cruise as the service isn’t the same at all. It doesn’t say anywhere they will spot everywhere picking up and dropping off people, on top of that it isn’t clear anywhere during the booking that you could also share the trip with pets. Nothing wrong but I should be able to chose if I am paying for the service.
Our activity was first changed to a earlier start and we needed to change the trip back, then the weather was really bad, we called earlier to check if it would go through and they said yes, then 5 min before arriving (we were an hour driving) they called to say they would prefer to cancel.
Of course I wouldn’t recommend to do this activity in winter if you want a tourist visit to Abel Tasman.

Thank you for travelling with us. Bad weather is invariably the trigger for negative reviews. We understand your disappointment but ask that you be more considered in your reviews during this Covid era. Our staff’s employment is at stake. Visitor numbers have been decimated, and fuel prices have gone through the roof but we have held our fare prices to provide low season options to travel into the national park. Our website did supply you with the details of the smaller vessel used during our low season. Fast moving weather fronts can result in sudden changes to our services. Sometimes we do suggest cancellation, even at the last minute, if we think it’s not going to be enjoyable. You chose not to take up our suggestion. We provide a service for communities who live on private land within the park boundaries. Owners travel with their pets to ensure they are well-behaved. We will make it clearer in our descriptions that our boat cruises include regular stops at popular beaches to drop off and pick up people who have booked to walk sections of the track.

We did the 3-day Abel Tasman Walk. We were very disappointed with the lack of safety measures when we were required to cross the Awaroa inlet at the end of Day 1. We were required to cross outside of the 'safe time' advised by DOC. We were advised that the water would be no higher than waist but it was chest high and a very scary and extremely dangerous experience. To avoid this, we recommend checking the high tide times and making sure that you will arrive at the inlet in the 'safe' crossing time.

Equally important advice is to follow the instructions of track notes and your guide regarding tidal crossings. Safe crossings are always subject to weather/flood influences and tide heights. Local knowledge is of value. On this day your guide was delayed a few minutes assisting an injured walker, so some of your group chose to walk past him and follow the route advised by independent DOC track walkers who had never been to the area before. Your guide crossed after you, using the shallower route further up the estuary with no significant concern for himself or the two guests he was with. Feedback received from those members of your group said it was the best part of the trip.

We had an amazing day with Wilsons in the Abel Tasman! I love this part of the country and wanted to show my parents from the UK this amazing place I called home.
We opted for the cruise and self guided hike from the quarry to Medlands beach. I called previously to ask about the difficulty of the hike for my parents. They were very reassuring and we’re so kind on the phone. They even told me to book online through their website rather than on the phone to save $5 per person which was great of them to do so!
We had the small boat as it was winter and very quiet which was ideal. We were shown some really neat places and given lots of information before being dropped off. We were given plenty of time to do the walk. We had lunch first at the beach (we were dropped off just after the quarry which made the walk 5 minutes longer but the beach was idyllic for lunch and was beautiful) and then made our way slowly. We had time to stop and look at the fauna and listen out for native birds.
We were picked up punctually at Medlands Beach. We were there just on time as we walked slowly and had a long lunch break, so it was nice to not have to wait around. If you are a faster walker then Bark Bay is a great place to sit and wait before walking over to Medlands.
The boat journey back was great and we were dropped off at little Kaiteri due to the tides.
Thank you for a great day out

This is the best way to see the Abel Tasman. I highly recommend the 5-day option to allow you to explore this amazing area rather than just walking from point to point. Wilsons provides all the comfort and safety you need with amazing guides, brilliant itineraries, accommodation, menus, drying rooms (!!), en suites, transport, options, and ambience.
My only criticism is there was too much food.
This should be on your bucket list.
