- tumefamily00Amazing Value for Money ExperienceWOW! Was worth every cent. Two hours flew by and there were plenty of whoop whooping as well as stops for commentary on the STUNNING scenery. Made our special family trip even more so! Not a lot to do in Glenorchy apart from some cafes and a few gift shops but was lovely to have a lazy wander. Drive to Glenorchy was spectacular! Dart River Jet Boat staff were fantastic, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Felt safe on the jet boat and the neck scarfs & spray jackets they supplied were great. Was NOT a bumpy trip at all which is what I have heard a lot of other people experienced on other jet boating rides in Queenstown. HIGHLY recommend!
- DublinJaney00An amazing river adventure! An amazing adventure. John our driver was a really nice guy and full of information about the local area! The trip was thrilling and the views were amazing! It can be cold on the river but we were given long warm splash coats and face coverings and so we were very comfortable! Well worth a trip!
- Natalie H00Must See!We had the most incredible experience with Dart River Adventures! The staff were so professional, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The picnic lunch was very tasty and the views were breathtaking and need to be seen to be believed! Highly recommend!! 11/10!
- stuwoody2900Great thrills and stunning sceneryJohn, was a great driver and host on the boat mixing thrills, history and geography along the route. The 2 plus hrs flew by. This trip was something to remember, one of the best I’ve been on.
- TheCoffeeJules92900A thrilling dayThis activity took me by surprise—I thought it’d be fun to sign up for but had no idea how awesome it would be. There’s nothing quite like seeing a bit of New Zealand this way—such a rush and an exhilarating way to see the scenery. Our guide, Pedro, was kind, informative and made sure we felt safe. I highly recommend this experience!
- wayne70700Just do it.Excellent experience, nothing like having a middle aged hoon driving the boat. He enjoys his job, and why wouldn't he. The driver was very informative and engaged well with the passengers. We are in our mid-sixties and it was one of the best experiences we had in New Zealand.
- Melissa P00Dart River Wilderness Epic AdventureWow the most epic adventure we will never forget!! From the moment we made the booking in Australia, then the uncertainty of all the fog if it will even go ahead on the day we were kept up to date, with so much understanding and kindness from the beautiful staff at reception. The fog lifted enough and we were given the green light. Andreas our captain was truly amazing, knowledgeable and this was matched by his mind blowing boat skills. Matt the great co pilot gave us a tour of a hidden gem pool which we were in awe of! The scenery doesn’t do justice in photos and something you have to see for yourself. Special mentions to Sophie who was in the reception at the end of our adventure, your bubbly personality topped off what was already the most amazing and memorable day we have ever had! Bring on the funyaks when we return next time ♥️
- Sunseeker25506000Beautiful and fastThe Dart River Jet boat experience was great. Magnificent scenery, high speed excitement and a knowledgeable driver who educated us about the area and history. A very worthwhile experience.
- DotH64200Must do experienceThis is a great experience and we were lucky to have a beautiful day, our bus driver and boat driver were both really informative about the area and N.Z. history. The river and scenery are amazing to see , you have time to get out for photo's , highly recommended.
- Baildam00Thrilling, pristine, awe inspiring jet boat ride 38 kms up and down the Dart River by the most expert drivers.Blown away by this trip. The most gorgeous ride from Queenstown to Glenorchy and then a really long ride up the crystal clear or milky with Glacier ground mountain stone dust river. The mountains on both sides are totally beautiful and stars in Lord of the Rings. The river a site for Pouna stone but only for Māori collection being sacred. Then lots of 360s on the Wakapatipu Lake which was flat the day we went. Wonderful and thrilling.
- lestrewinnard00Blown AwayLiterally blown away, and not just by the wind and the speed. The experience was amazing, thrilling and exciting. We enjoyed the 45min drive along the lake then had a good two hours of fun and excitement as Bill threw the boat around even doing a few spins! We stopped now and then while Bill told us about the history of the area - very informative, thanks Bill. Overall a great time and we were blown away!
- Max G00Great FunWe had a great time on the Dart River Jet Boat experience. Our knowledgeable guide took us up the Dart River, explaining about its history and Māori culture. This river adventure is not as fast and crazy as some of the jet boats, which seem to exist to see how many times they can spin you in circles. The experience starts with a 45 minute bus ride from Queenstown to the company’s base. From there, we went onto the river for about 2 hours before returning to base and then to Queenstown.
- Cosmoss00Interesting tripThe trip is in various parts. Drive from Queenstown is very pretty. Then a short bus ride to the forest which is overrated. The walk through the forest should have been a lot longer. Not enough time to appreciate the beauty. The jet boat ride is relatively sedate for a jet boat. More about the scenery which is simply sensational, than a thrill ride. However it has its share of power and thrills. I would go on this for a more comprehensive look at the beauty but the Shotover if you want white knuckle thrills. Price is quite reasonable (for Queenstown)
- Jane C00Fun Fast and FuriousSuch a great trip The best we did in New Zealand You definitely get your Bang for your Buck!!! We had the very experienced, informative and entertaining Simon as our guide. Would highly recommend
- Ken G00One of the most fun experiences on our New Zealand trip! This is a great way to get to see the mountains up close.I thought this might be one of those things that was a little too "touristy" - fast boats doing 360 degree turns on an icy river?? But some friends told us we had to do it, that the scenery was beautiful, so we did it. Well, it turned out to be a great experience! The boats hold about 10-12 people, so it's not too crowded, and the bars you hold onto are very secure, so the 360s were actually fun, plus we got a little splashed. The jet boats are incredibly fast - they said we were going as fast as 75 miles an hour at times, and the draft is so shallow (4") that you skirt the gravel banks as you follow the river's twists and turns. While you're moving so fast, it's hard to really pay attention to the scenery (I was trying to hold on to my glasses so they wouldn't blow off) but we stopped quite a few times and got a better chance to look around. And it was beautiful, with the incredible New Zealand mountains rising all above us. They said we went up the river about 75 km and back in about 2 hours, so we got into a pretty remote area and got to see the mountains up close. I highly recommend this company and you must take a jet boat ride if you're in the area.

We did the jetboat-funyak day, and this set us back $1105 as a family of 4. The Dart River is beautiful and one guide, Nina was wonderful, and saved this day from being unbearable. There were 2 kiwis, a male who had a giant chip on his shoulder and a woman who drove the bus and had questionable non PC humor. Very anti-Aussie. Bad taste, when you're a tour guide. If you like being herded about, you'll enjoy this. The buffet lunch was cold cuts, stale bread and pea quiche. The chasm is beautiful but its hard to take a photo being hurried along or having 12 funyaks jammed against you. I had the impression that staff were OVER tourists, and wanted the day to END. When I fell over, dragging my kayak out of the water, the female kiwi guide offered the words 'try not to fall over' and laughed. So comforting. Thanks. Then the bus to take us back wouldnt start. The angry kiwi main guy sat in the broken bus not uttering a word to us, whilst we passed the time on the pebbled beach, being devoured by sand flies and without water. No one had water since lunch. My whole family were gasping when the replacement bus came an hour later. The apology about the bus breakdown included the words 'it wasn't our bus so its not really our fault'. It was probably an amazing tour, back in the day. Staff need to get hospitality training or stay at home. And put some love into the lunch. Also, if you're unfit, make sure you have a friend who can assist you as the currents can be hard work.

Kia ora Dream169055,
Thank you for your feedback as it allows us a chance to connect with you and investigate this further. It is concerning to receive this type of feedback and we are gutted you didn't have a great experience with us.
We pride ourselves on providing outstanding customer service and care to all of our customers and this certainly sounds out of the ordinary. I apologise that your interactions with some of our kaimahi (team) was not satisfactory and the lunch was not what you were expecting. I will definitely be following this up.
If you could please let me know your booking name or trip time/day it would be greatly appreciated. You can email me on zoe.wood@nttourism.co.nz. I would love to get to the bottom of this and resolve this with you as soon as possible.
I would like to thank you again for your honest feedback and also for noting how wonderful Nina was, we agree she is great!
Ngā Mihi,
Zoe

“Five stars - epic”
Our family of 4, with very limited kayak/rafting experience, had a wonderful day with Dart River Adventures.
The jet boat ride, ably driven by Evan, was through incredible scenery and for us it was the right balance level of excitement!
We had a great time being led on funyaks back down the river with a stop for lunch and a visit into an amazing river canyon - and optional swimming (the weather was pretty warm). For a lunch in the wilderness, carried by funyak, it was a great spread with a variety of food and drink options for both the carnivores and vegetarians in our family. We were also introduced to NZ delicacies for dessert including ginger slice and “lolly cake”. Mac was a great guide to our group, giving us enough ‘room’ for us to practise our budding paddling skills (and for our kids to experiment with steering) - yet sufficient instruction for us to negotiate some trickier corners and avoid obstacles. The river was pretty flat, which was perfect for our beginner capabilities, and we arrived at our bus pickup at the aptly named Paradise Beach having all enjoyed our adventure.
Adelaide (hi Adelaide! 😄) did a great job narrating our bus ride back to Glenorchy with a mix of information about the area and cattle jokes.

This is a must do adventure when visiting New Zealand. We caught the bus from Queenstown to Glenorchy, once we arrived we were briefed in all the safety aspects and we were given the clothes we would need for the day. The jet boat was exciting, exhilarating and so much fun, photos were taken that we could purchase later. We then went on to the funyaks, we were briefed and then we were on our way rowing down the river. The guides were patient and thoughtful as many people in the group were beginners. We stopped for delicious club sandwich lunch and a quick float into a chasm before we headed back to the pick up area. A very long day but well worth every minute!

A big shout out to the team at Dart River Adventures. We arrived in Queenstown on the Sunday and booked the Funyak canoe plus Jet Boat tour for Monday hoping it would run with only the two of us. A call on the Monday morning confirming they would run the funyak part of the tour for our party of two. (the jet boat experience incl another couple). A big thank to Ed our jet boat driver who was a lot of fun with our 360 spins and his knowledge and even excitement when we travelled 45kms up the river. We were met by Toby halfway back to commence our funyak paddle. Toby is knowledgeable and nothing seemed to phase him.... even our paddling. The highlight was paddling into the chasm and sitting having a wonderful packed lunch just taking in the views of our wonderful country.
Thanks to the team for making this experience happen.
PS. take insect repellant - those sandflies are big.

The pick up and the quality of the transport to and from was excellent, as was Morgan’s commentary en route. The organisation of the dressing process was funny and very efficient. The jet boat driven by Ben was superb, it had the perfect combination of professionalism, skill, fun and enough thrills to please kids, parents and grandparents (no mean feat!).
The Funyaks were everything we’d hoped for and the enthusiasm and interest by the team of guides was really fantastic. Philip gave great guidance on kayaking and very interesting information on the geology and nature in the area. He and Gareth were superb with the kids, encouraging them to safely push limits and really experience the sensational environment. The kids absolutely loved it.
The day was truly memorable for our family and made so by these fantastic guides as much as the breathtaking scenery. Oh and lunch was amazing too!!

My 9-year old daughter and I had an absolute blast funyaking down the Dart River. Highly recommended. Staff were friendly and provided a great briefing. Drivers and funyak guides were excellent, providing great information and advice along the way. A good lunch is included. We drove out to Glenorchy to take in the beautiful lake scenery rather than take the coach from Queenstown, which provided a bit more flexibility.

We had a fantastic trip up the river dart on the jet boat followed by the funyak. The jet boat is amazing and so skilfully driven by Finn who also gave us lots of information about the beautiful Glenorchy valley. We then picked up our funyaks , such a peaceful way to see the river and the valley, thanks to Sophie our guide who did a great job keeping us going in the right direction !The lunch time stop walking across the braided river bed to another canoeing spot was just wonderful and jumping in to the clear if somewhat freezing water a highlight Top bombing from Toby ! . Would totally recommend this trip , experienced and informative and fun guides who made it a day to remember.

I did this activity as an add on from Contiki. Whilst it was a good day, I think my excitement compared to other activities I did wasn't as strong. I was probably most disappointed as I wanted to take my time whilst rafting and take photos, but it did feel slightly rushed going along the river to be able to stop and properly take in everything (that being said, I should just invest in a go pro).
The jet boat was nice, the rafting was my highlight as I had never been rafting (but I got lucky with the crew I was with who knew what they were doing, so we could raft on our own), and the scenery absolutely incredible, but unfortunately I don't have much to show for it. I enjoyed the food, and the driving tour was okay (but I'm not a big LOTR fan).
Overall I'm glad I did it, but not for $400. $300 at most. I did pay more for other activities on my NZ trip and felt more justified in those prices for the experience I got.

The scenery along the way is amazing, you will experience snow mountains ( almost 360 around you), crystal blue lake and rivers (all the way from end to end), jet will take you to the upstream with many spins to panorama the landscapings, with a mystery paradise adventure surprise before or after delicious handmade lunch.
The guide James is very nice and kind, and will keep you safe all the time.
We really really enjoyed the adventure and will highly recommend to everyone that this is a MUST GO tour if you are on the planet.
Thanks very much!!!

One of the best days we've had as a Family. Taking all into account while not the cheapest I felt this was terrific value for money. A 30 Minute Jet Boat through the Dart River and then a few hours on the Funyaks with Lunch included. Scenery was unbelievable, the Funyaks were great "fun" and the guides/staff were just terrific. This would be an activity that I would do again and again

Thank you for your review. So pleased to hear that you and your family had such a great day out on our Funyaks trip. It sure is a special part of the world that we operate in, and the Funyaks is a great combo of the fast exhilarating jet boat ride, and a slow float back down the river allowing you to take in the scenery.
Hopefully see you again some day.

This was a whole day event for us. However, if you contact the company, they can give you more information about timing and length of tours, etc.

Call who you booked through and ask if card was run thorough, if so ask for receipt of credit to account. Because there are many cancellations for weather on this and other trips like Milton Sound in many cases they do not run charges through until confirmation trip will take place.

You'd definitely need to ask the organisers. We were in two person Funyaks which meant both people had to steer and row. There's always the chance of someone falling into the river which can be quite treacherous. We had some adult "non swimmers" in our group who didn't speak English. I don't think it would have been easy for anyone if they had fallen into the water. I'm a school teacher and I definitely wouldn't take a child on the Funyak part of the trip.
