My immediate family and I flew from London to Calgary on January 29th 2024. The entire flight was a debacle and resulted in a 8 hour delay. We were given multiple excuses: that it was maintenance issue at first, that the plane had to divert to Montreal to refuel, then air crew sickness. We were subsequently told that the members of the crew had “timed out” and that the only way to continue the flight was to fly 7+ hours to Montreal, instead of 8+ hours to Calgary.
The real issue is that parents who were the same flight and originated from London, received compensation from Air Canada within days. This was equivalent to $600 EUR or $1200 CAD air Canada credit.
My immediate family was told that were not eligible, even though we were on the same flight as my parents. Air Canada provided no details or evidence for this explanation as per the CTA requirements. Air Canada subsequently said that the matter was closed and thats that. I have submitted to CTA, but that's likely to take a few years to resolve.
I am a 50k status and credit card holder. I have consistently chosen to fly with Air Canada instead of WestJet; however, this will not be the case anymore
If you can fly with any other airline, I would likely recommend it.
