In August 2010, LAN and TAM Brazilian Airlines announced plans to merge their companies into a single brand and operation to be known as LATAM Airlines Group. TAM and LAN together serve around 115 destinations in 23 countries with a combined fleet of 280 aircraft. In May 2016, the new brand of the combined carrier was revealed and the phasing out of the individual airline identities began. While the airline will still maintain separate IATA codes for the former airlines, the identity, product and service standards have begun to be standardised. The merged carrier, the largest in Latin America, is known as LATAM Airlines, a member of the oneworld alliance.
